Hey all. Looking for on game performance reviews of the speer mag tip hotcor 350gr .458 bullets. Just wondering what velocity range they expand down to. I ran out of water jugs before I recovered a bullet but they shoot extremely accurate out of my 458wm. Was thinking of trying them in my 4570. I've read they're designed for higher impact speeds
I haven't had any luck sourcing the Remington 405gr spfn I normally use in my 4570

I've shot alot of deer and bears with .458 350 Hot-Cors... they always perform well. I have used them in .45-70, .450 Marlin, .458 WM and .458 Lott. In my current .458 WM Carbine they do not feed well until I file them into an RN, so I switched to the Hornady 350 RN's and now to the Barnes Original 400 SP. If your rifle is a Win Mag, you might be better off with the Barnes original 400 SP's if you are able to source them. I load them to 3.200" with H4895 for a pleasant deer/bear load... or for anything else your heart may desire.

Recovered a bullet after it went thru 6 gallon water jugs and bounced off some hardwood 4x4s. To me perfect expansion from my 458wm. I did not chronograph the load yet but it was 77.2 of h4895. I have a 26" barrel. My 3 shot group was a little over an inch and half but I was laying prone on the ice after working a 12 hour shift and I couldn't keep the crosshairs still on the bullseye.
They feed fine in my rifle
My double rifle in 4570 did not like them at all and only 1 barrel liked the 300gr HP
I just picked up another 400 bullets so I'll be shooting my 458wm alot in the coming weeks
I can't seem to find my preferred 400gr woodliegh ppsn or Remington bulk 405gr fnsp so I'm left to play with commonly available bullets to find a load I like.
I have enough 500gr solids and round noses stashed away in case I ever get a chance at a cape buffalo.

How do you like the Marlin vs the wm?

350gr Speer Mag Tip @2400 fps mv group not too bad from my .458 Win Mag. Don't recall using these on game yet (?) but have used Speer .416 350gr Mag Tip on Elk @~2350 fps impact shot clear thru broadside.

They will be fine, I wouldn’t be concerned about expansion with .458 bullets they are already big enough for NA game.
I shoot 2 .458 wm’s and about 9 45/70’s and 45/90, don’t rule out the hard cast offerings they are fantastic for hunting.

Not a great photo but this is my 458wm. Ignore the mess of my shrimp room
Interarms mark x with a 26" Douglas barrel. It's fully glass bedded action and barrel. Even the mag box is bedded

I have 405gr flat nose hardcast bullets that regulate well in my double but I haven't used them on game other than a grouse

I like all .45 cal cartridges pretty much. Since I download the Win Mag for bears, the .450 Marlin made perfect sense... and worked well for several bears over the couple years that I used it. I shot dozens of bears and deer for over 30 years with various .45-70's... then started using my DG rifles more often, just to stretch their legs a bit... .416 Rigby, .458 Win Mag, .458 Lott, .450/400, .450 Nitro... for the most part, these do not require full power loads for most NA game, so I mess around with different bullets and loads... most are successful, but a couple have been spectacular failures.

Interarms Mark X same Zastava mauser action as my Remington 798. Good accuracy with Hornady 500gr & IMR 4064 @1900 fps mv. Works great on Moose gonna stick with 500gr in my .458 Win Mag.

I have a moose a whitetail buck and mule deer buck. I have yet to recover any bullets. I shot the bullets out of my Winchester 1885 high wall 45-70.

Be a Man, shoot 500 Grain Bullets full loads, that is what the 458 Win Mag is meant for.

Cheers

I tried the 350s in my 4570 and it did not like them. My only other 45 is the 458wm so I was playing with them. When I take the 458wm hunting it's loaded with 500gr woodliegh rn or 400gr woodlieghs ppsn

I'm sure the 350s will shoot a bit flatter though.

P.S - if anyone is interested, Ellwood Epps has 10 boxes (after I purchased mine) of the Barnes Original .458" 400 grain SP bullets at a good price. FYI.

I have some I can try. My sxs is very picky on regulation. 1 barrel shoots every thing very well the other barrel groups decently. Very good with what it likes. It is just a matter of vertical separation. Thanks for the info
