.356 WIN Reloading advice

I am reading this thread with a lot of interest as there is not a lot of info on the .356 Win. I had heard of the cartridge in passing years ago and never really gave it another thought until a friend bought a really nice rifle chambered for it a few months ago. He was looking for a 30-30 deer rifle and came up with a .356 instead. "No problem" he thought, "I know a guy who reloads". Well that guy is me. I gave him the task of finding some factory ammo so we can get the brass and give us a starting point for velocity. So far all I think we will be using Hornady's 200gr FTX bullets.

I don't want to hijack the thread but since you are all here, I figured it is a good time to ask a question. From what I have read, the dies for the .358 Win will work for the .356 Win and I just have to have the right shellholder. Is that correct?

Thanks. tbhupe

Hi, you are correct, they are the same die set, but two different shell holders. At least that's what the Redding dies are. There is new brass available, just got 100 from Epps about a month ago, which may be your cheapest route aside from somebody giving you some saved up brass. And you will need a different seating plug for the dies to work with the FTX bullets, for Redding it's a #20, which is also a common .30 cal size. If you do reload some please post your results, or if you have any other questions I'm sure somebody can chime in.

I've got a load page page from Hornady showing a anumber of powders, but I can't seem to figure out how to post!! It's pdf format, if anyone can give me couple pointers I'll try to post or I can try pming it maybe?
