Are any other forum members shooting a 356win rifle. I picked up a clean win 94XTR in 356, and thought that it might be good for use a carry gun while running bear baits, or for use in the tight timber. I purchased 100 rounds of brass, bullets, and some dies today, along with another Williams peep sight, so it will be set up like my 94 in 30-30.

The selection of bullets wasn't great, no Speer 220s in stock, so I will try some 200gr FTX. Only two dealers, out of six that I called, had brass, and only one bag each.

Don't forget if you see them at the right price you can use 307Win brass too - though the neck will be slightly shorter by about .010" - I use em regularly. Just make sure your expander button is suitable for necking up. Hornady put a nice polished elliptical one in all their dies sets.

I have a Winchester 94BB in 356. No issues at all. Williams fool proof peep with a brass Skinner front blade. An honest 1.5" at 100 yards with Hornady 200 gr round nose. I also have used 307 win brass with no problems. I shot a nice 8 point with it dropped right there, but any rifle would have dropped it where I hit it, spine hit. Obviously a finishing shot was needed.

Seeing as how the supply of 356win brass in Canada is now pretty much non existent, I picked up some 307win brass, to supplement the 356 brass that I did find. I will use the resized 307 brass for the FTX loads, as they should be on the short side anyway.

Good thinking there - you are way ahead of the curve already. You'll find the 356 easy to feed. Cast will work well too in that Winchester. In a pinch 308 or 358 cases may be used also though you need to CHECK/WATCH HEAD SPACING FOR SAFE SHOOTING. My Marlin extracts 308 cases fine.
Frig....I'd sell my first born to get a Marlin in .356...*sigh*
Recently a shooting friend I showed it to brought along a sizable cash amount with him to try to buy it - he made me a fair offer. However I was not ready to send it on down the road. Still very attached to it I guess. I've had it 30 years. Was my "go to" in the mid eighties. Now I have other 35cals which distract me so it doesn't get used much.

I received the XTR today, and it is as close to mint as it could be, exceptional considering it is an early Winchester rifle with the radial spaced front mount screws. I also received my Redding dies, and 100 rounds of 356 brass. As soon as the Williams sight and the bullets arrive, I will get out and fire it. Given the light rifle, it might not be the most pleasant to shoot with full power loads.

I have a Win '94 XTR in .356 Win in my cabinet. It's been used to shoot a 300+lb N.B. buck whitetail and a smallish Ont. black bear. It's also been taken on a moose hunt to NW Ontario but the moose were a no-show... lotsa deer tho! But wrong season!

Actually it belongs to my oldest son who only got to use it a few times because he spent most of those years in Africa. He did the hunting and shooting with it while home on furlough. It's still in my gun cabinet though he and wife now live in Toronto. I handload it for him using the 220 Speers or the 250gr Speer with the nose nipped off, same as Whelen B.

It has the most beautiful wood I've ever seen in a factory lever gun. It's accurate and powerful, about the same as its sibling, the .358 Win.

It's been awhile, but "Hi" to Whelen B.

I just bought a Marlin 336ER in .356 Win today. I can hardly wait to get her!
Yesssssss - more joy! it's been a long while searching out that one - good on ya. Some Friday after work in the usual place drop it by for a look. Will love to hear the story on snagging that one of 2,441.

BTW today I Just bought a factory Rem M7400 in 35 Whelen for old times sake. I used to have one I sold - as did also my good friend and hunting buddy Bob ( bigborefan above - hey Bob). They proved reliable, powerful and were only made from 93-95. Should be fun to use again and will join along side my M750 semi carbine in 35Whelen.

Whelen B... that 7400 looked good and felt good too... even before trying to focus my feeble eyes on the engraving, I knew it would be some sort of .35 cal...
