I thought I read somewhere that bullets for .38spl/.357 are the same diameter as 9mm. SI this true? Would save a bit as my dad already is set up for casting .38spl bullets and already has a metric S**t ton cast.

Thanks.

.355 and .358 will not work together and most bullet styles that are made for the 38 will not work in a 9mm.

Pretty much. Lead bullets of a truncated cone or round nose style might work, but most designs would have too much lead in front of the front driving band to both fit in the case and stay within the OAL.

Don't despair. I fired many hundreds of .358 140 grain semi-wadcutters in a Colt Combat Commander, a Star Model B, a Beretta 92 and a CZ75. And several hundred .358 158 grain semi wadcutters in the Beretta model 92. The longer bullets (the 158's) will always bulge the case, so I just took the decapping stem out of a 9mm sizer and ran the completed round through it, worked great.
Depending on the brass brand the 140's also sometimes bulged the case too much to chamber, so I post-sized all my 9mm loads with cast bullets. (I just bought a second 9mm size die).
As I recall, the powder was Hercules Unique

I have also fired many hundreds of bullets in my 9mm, that measured .357 or .358. My 9mm that I was using preferred that diameter, and they worked without problem.
That is not to say that all types of .38 Special cast bullets will work well. Without knowing what kind of bullets and styles you currently have, it is hard to advise. The main point is that the diameter might work, but the bullet style and weight might not.
You could always load a few and see if they feed, and then if they function properly. Using appropriate load data for the bullet weight.
