what powder should i use to get the bigest flash and the bigest bang/recoil in the 357 load?

i have win231 at home but if i get it right it is a fast burnin powder so i should go whit slower powders.

thank!

give me all the info you can give me!

W296 and H110 are also one of the two traditionally best powders for the 357 and used extensively in them. Hercules 2400 was the other poopular powder and it and H110 were old standbys. Not a powder used to see how big a flash, or bang, you could get.
This is not to say there is not a host of other good powders out there for the 357.

I'm not advocating this in any way and I'm posting it more as a question to others rather than a response to D-C. For a larger flash, wouldn't 4227 or SR4759 or even 4198 be some choices that would offer a slower burn? That's the cause of muzzle flash isn't it - excess or more powder burning outside the barrel than in? Again, I would have no idea what charge to put behind which bullet or if they would even be remotely safe.

Slow powders will produce more muzzle flash and probably make some noise, but other than pyrotecnics there is no advantage in choosing powders that are too slow for the capacity of the cartridge. Pressure and velocity will be low and the gun will foul quickly. IMR 4227 is a good powder for the .357, but loaded with 4198 performance would suffer. I'm not sure what DIRTYCLEAN is hoping to accomplish, but the best performance is with the powders that his loading manual says gives the highest velocity for the bullet weight he chooses. This as often as not means H-110.

What you'll probably find with those slower burning powders is alot of unburn't powder in the barrel, not adding anything to the equation.
