Okay need help with a question, recently picked up some Hornady 140 gr .357 FTX bullets, yeah the leverevolution jobbies to realod. I planned on using H110 powder.
After consulting both the Lee Manual and the Hodgedon website it shows 17.1- 19 grs of H110 for the Hornady 140gr XTP bullet.
Now I have been loading for a while and generally 140grs is 140grs.
So as I'm charging the cases it seems like its filling up the case pretty good, I believe the charges are somewhat compressed. So now I think hmmm just for giggles I'll check the Hornady website. It doesn't even list H110 as a powder for the FTX bullets. Further states this "Please keep in mind that you’ll need to trim your cases shorter than normal when loading FTX® bullets. This allows you to maintain the correct cartridge overall length, which is critical to function in both lever guns and revolvers."
Now I am able to seat the bullets to the cannalure at 17.1, 18 and 19grs. I have not cut the cases back and they all cycle in my Rossi 92 with the 24 inch octagon barrel ..
Do I need to worry about over pressure?? I don't have an XTP bullet to compare, from the Pictures on the website it appears the cannalure on the FTX bullet is a tad farther forward than the XTP making it seat a little deeper, but i may have counteracted that by not cutting back the case.
Opinions anyone??
