Is there any one brand that is the best or any to stay away from?

The brands I was looking at are Remington,Winchester, and Federal.

Oops, brass not ammo. go with any of them, they will last a long time

I've never had any brand of 357 brass that didnt last forever. Pick one and start loading.

aquila brass

Aquila brass has a very thick rim half of what Ihad would not fit the shellholder any other brand has been fine

all will work, but i've had warped bases with winchester which would not fit into the shell holder

also, i find remington the easiest to seat primers into

I have also had warped bases with Winchester that make them hard to fit in the shell holder. Winchesters are hard to get primers to seat as well...even Winchester primers.

My pick would be Federal brass in.357 or any other caliber, followed by PMC or Remington.

Thanks for the info, I was going to pick up a bunch of Winchester today, but now I think I'll stick to Remington.

I looked at some factory loaded Federal American Eagle, but they have a crimp line about 1/3 of the way down the case, way past where the bullet would be.

Does this crimp line cause any issues?

Why did they make them like that?

I have lots of Winchester brass (that's all that was on the shelf, otherwise I would've bought Remington). We'll see how the longevity goes, because I'm shooting .38 special loads out of the .357 brass (so they'll hopefully outlive me).

Anyway, I don't get a good feeling from Winchester as compared to Remington because:

1) In another calibre, Remington put one extra in the bag, which was a nice touch, you know, in case you're 1 short. Winchester put the exact amount of brass in the bag, and I thought I was good, until I noticed that one looked odd. Upon closer inspection it appears it was cut to .38 special length, but stamped .357 magnum.

2) I don't know what Remington .357 new brass is like, but the Winchester stuff looks like it was cut off with a hacksaw; lots of burrs on the case mouth, and many aren't very square.

3) The primers go into the Winchester brass with varying levels of difficulty, some very easily, others with some effort. Obviously the cases aren't very uniform.

We'll see how they work out in the long run (I don't anticipate any problems, hopefully), but if I see any other brand on the shelf, I'll be giving it a go next time round.
