357 mag for deer...... yup it does work (pics)

Nice bucks you keep your head worked the call and worked within the limits of the 357 and a nice back tail to show for your efforts congratulations

Well i'm glad to see someone getting a deer with a 357. I picked up a model 1873 Winchester in 357 last week. This morning when I was putting my trail cam out to check to see what was in the area. I was heading back, I seen 4 coyotes on the opposite side of a slew on the ice. Well I decided to give the 1873 a try, I dropped one in his tracks, the others got the heck out of there. What surprised me was it was over a 100 yrd shot across the slew and how hard the 158gr hit that coyote...wow. I think I'll try to drop a few more with that little lever gun. But congrats on getting your deer with your.357

Congratulations on your harvest. I
got a 7pt Whitetail this morning with mine at 120yds. 158xtp hp. No bullet recovery. Deer went less than 30 and left a messy trail.

I packed my .357 to camp this weekend, ended up using my drilling instead, but you have inspired me for next year! congratulations and Waidmannsheil!

I hunt religiously with 308, for me it's the best cartridge all day long, will drop every animal I hunt..
Have not yet taken my Marlin 1894CP 357 Mag into woods, as most of my ranges are 140 plus..
One day, closer range may try to switch, tough gig for me to leave without a 308..

I agree,
for deer season my 308 scout has become my "go to" rifle. The area this deer came from was max 100y and even that would be pushing it.

I was more interested in trying a few different calls/rattling techniques in a high activity area. The goal was to bring something in closer than 50y, where iron sights and the 357's range limitations wouldn't be an issue.

I was just fortunate things played out how they did. :)
