I just recently decided to get into a couple revolvers to diversify my pistol collection. I just bought a 1978 S&W Model 28 and a 1933 Colt Army Edition in .38 special. I have heard that with older revolvers you do not want to pull the trigger without ammunition or dummy ammunition in the revolver. Something to do with not having a firing pin stop or something of that nature. Does it make sense to just keep old brass in the pistol or are there good dummy rounds available? Any help finding them would be appreciated.

Look for snap caps or make your own. Unfired brass would be best as it hasn't expanded. Your need to properly pull the bullet, empty the powder, pop then remove the primer. In the primer pocket glue in the white eraser material as a fp striker surface. Drill a series of holes around the casing to create a visible identifier the rounds are inert. Then press in the pulled bullets. It takes a little work or buy snap caps.

A-Zoom snap caps are well worth having esp. for revolvers...you can use fired brass, but the primers wear out after a while. Buy the .38SP caps...they work perfectly in a .357 [just like loaded ammo]. You can also use the caps for practicing speed loading, if you're into that.
