im looking for a rifle in 357mag or 44mag calibers i was wondering what make and models of rifle you would recommend for under 200 new or used

I doubt you'll find anything even close to that price in either calibre man, but for around 600 you can get last years Rossi's. I'm selling my .45 to get a .44 and already have the .357 in SS so I put my money where my mouth is on that opinion. Any lever below 400 and you'll wind up with problems, why else would a guy sell one for so cheap. All you have to do is look at the previous sales and current asking prices in the EE and you'll see what the market is like.

At $200 you will be hard pressed to find much.

For pistol calibre lever guns, I am a big fan of the Marlins. Depending on calibre and finish, you will be into it for $600-800 (less for used).

If its for hunting I'd recommend the 44 mag. I had a Ruger semi-auto, I've forgetten the exact name, Deerslayer or something like that. It was a nice compact and reliable little gun. They don't go for cheap though. For hunting up close with a compact light gun, I'd just get a lever action 30-30. Cheap and plentiful.

Not much in good condition for that price. Depends on your purpose for the rifle, if it is predator control, or bear defence, I enjoyed using the .44 Ruger carbine in semi auto. Marlin lever actions are good choices too. I own one in .357.

Go with the .357 have taken everything from Yogis, Bambi's, Coyotes, Beavers and everything in between. The .44s seem to be a little scarcer (I have both) Marlin is my choice but Winchesters are great and if you could find a used beater Puma you may find something for around $350. I just sold an almost New Puma .357 on the EE and it took a few days to get $500.
My 2cents
Pete......

For a hunting rifle the .44 is the way to go, lots of jam....$200 will get you some new sights and maybe a box of ammo.
