hi i have bot the ruger 77/44 and 77/357. im trying to decide which one to take up north hunting with me. ill be for sure taking my savage scout in 308 but i want a gun for close range in thick brush. ill be mostly hunting deer and wolves and i will also be hunting small game like rabbits and squirrels. just trying to get the pros and cons of the two and which will preform better. its kinda like the 9mm vs 45acp.
thanks.

Just wondering which of those 2 is the most accurate? I have a 77/44 which is a pie plate hitter with factory ammo. Have been thinking about getting a 77/357, but would like to know just how well they shoot. Also have an interest in getting a 77/7.62x39 if I can find one. Do you reload for them or use factory ammo, if so what do you use?

my ruger 77/357 if more accurate then my 77/44. i can hit a 3 inch target at 100 yards with open sights. i use factory ammo mostly barnes for hunting and just plain old pmc or american eagal for target shooting. but with barnes in 357 mag the bullet is moving so fast it tears of the pedals even at 50 yards. the 44 mag keeps its pedals so i assume it would preform much better in taking down a deer of bear. but the ammo for the 77/357 is way cheaper. there are advantages and disadvatages to both which makes it hard to pick between the two. this is why i asked this question. im leaning more on the 357 side but still cant decide.

Both are deer wolf capable, take whichever one you're most comfortable with to take a better shot

The scout 308 should work fine in the thick bush up close for wolves and deer. A hammond game getter would be handy for hitting small game while carrying the .308. I haven't tried one but it looks like a lightweight solution for small game encountered while big game hunting.

The.44 mag would be a better back up deer hunter in case something went wrong with your .308 but the .357 would be a fun plinker around camp and still work for deer at short range if you had too.

For squirrels and rabbits I'd be tempted to bring along a small lightweight .22
