357 magnum + Alliant Unique = question

I'm loading some 357 mag. My recipe is 7 grains of Unique with a 158 gn soft point bullet. The problem is the case is almost full of powder. Is that normal? Will the small pistol (non magnum) primer ignite the powder properly? Am I doing this correct?

Something is wrong with your powder charge... That sounds like a double charge... I use 6.5 grns of unique and 158 grn RN-FP for ~875fps and that fills the cases (.357) about half way.

...I just tried a double charge (13 grns) in a .357 case and still had about 1/8" room left in the case... something is defiantly wrong with your load. How are you dispensing your powder?
 
DON'T SHOOT IT!
Something is wrong. No way will 7 grains of Unique nearly fill a 357 case.

I double checked my scale and noticed that a 10 grains weight shifted a bit. Yeah, that didn't make sense at all. Thanks for your help!:rockOn:
 
Good catch, similar happened to me, the big nut on the powder dispenser jiggled loose. Started throwing 2 extra grains. I got to practice my bullet pulling a bit that night.
 
"...double checked my scale..." Good thing to do every time. It doesn't take much of a bump to move the weights. Visually checking the charged cases every time is a good idea too.

Nice to see that you have the sense to suspect something is wrong & ask about it.
I have seen a number of guns damaged or destroyed over the years by people who did not.
