I'm looking at buying a holster & belt. Doc Rowlands has some decent looking Oklahoma Leather products, I'm not looking for anything fancy.

The available cartridge loops on the belts are .357/.38 & .44/.45. Which do you think would fit .41LC better?

The 357 loops might be stretched out. The 44 loops would always be too loose.

I would give them a call and see if the .41 option might be available from the manufacturer. They might just not list them as they aren't as common.

There is also a holster maker in Calgary whose name I can't find just now....

I'm going with the .38/.357. I realize the loops may be a bit stretched with .41LC in them but I am interested in a modern SAA copy in .38/.357 and only want to purchase one belt.

Thanks

The .41 Long Colt uses a .386" bullet, so the .44 would be closer than a .357 loop. The loops will stretch and may not hold the .357 ammo well afterwards.

Gun belt/holster from Doc

I just received one.....for my Ruger Superblackhawk .44 Mag.....the loops are tight so if you are ordering, get the .44 Mag. loops for the .41 Mag....
Good quality..and delivered on time...
I have done several transactions with Doc.....no problems...

go with the 44 (453case) for the 41 (431case). the 357 (375case). The 41 is closer to the 44 (.021) vs the 357 to the 41 (.056). If you understand this, you will know which to get. :D

My measurements indicate the .41 is closer to the .357. This is based on measurement given on the net and measuring the chambers of my guns.

Matt is Talking about the 41 LONG COLT not the 41 Magnum.

38 or 357 is about .380
41 Long colt case is like .402.
So .020 tho strech.
Thats why soaking the belt in warm water might help.
Id Go with 357 tho not the 44 Mag or 44 Sp (same Dia) .452 Roughly. thats .050 Bigger.

make the belt good and wet soak it then push Dummy rounds in the loops.
Then let it dry with the Dummy rounds in the belt then oil it up.
its gona be very Tight tho.
I know a guy makes a wicked custom gun belt.
Any type Caliber ya want any # of loops.

Cheep to my belt was like $65 all carved ect
The Holster was like $55 thats USA funds but includes shipping.
My belt is lined and carved with 12 x 44 Special loops.

Doc Rowland holster

The holster is the Hunter (buscadero) model from Black Hills leather, Laredo, Texas, brokered seamlessly by Doc Rowland.....and I sure would not soak the rig in water to make the loops fit.....just order the loops to fit the cartridge..

Well i only mention the Water soaking if he had already Ordered the gun belt in 357. ;)

Thats the only way he will get 41 LC in them loops unless there a loose 357.
i also susjested to buy a custom made belt.

My own first thought was to use the .357 and soak the loops in water but I think I've got a better option.

Get the .44 belt. If the .41's are a good fit then use it. Being new the leather won't have been stretched by the bigger .44/.45's yet so it may be fine. If they are loose or come loose over time just lace a thin to medium strand of rawhide through the loops so there is more pressure on the cartriges. That'll give you all the re-tension you need.

I'm going to go with a custom rig instead. .41LC loops should do okay for .357 as well. Thanks for the replies.
