Hey gents i'm slowly looking into buying a 357 and wanted some advise. I would love to buy a S&W but I don't think I can afford the price. Some of the lesser expensive brands ive seen are the ruger, rossi and taurus. Any comments / recommendation? I love the stainless ateel look but its not a must. Cheers! JP

Just remember that the cost of ammo will not take too long to exceed the cost of the gun. If you really like the S&W, cheaper to get it first than buy another gun and get one anyway.

I wanted to buy a GP100, but couldn't find one available at the time. I ended up buying the S&W 686, which costed a few more bucks. The .357 mag is fun to reload for too.

That is the story of my life do what he said haha. I wish I had that advice, would have saved a few bucks. Lucky I had learned that by the time I picked up my 357. it will be well worth the extra month or two waiting.

I love my Taurus 668. Just did the trigger and hammer springs I would never sell this gun. I shot a bunch of S and W the Rugar GP-100. I liked the Taurus better. I was looking for a 66 but this came up so I jumped on it in EE. You would be best to go touch a few in the stores see what you like the feel of best. You can read all day online about them how ever it comes down to what you like in the end. That is my Taurus with the new grip

Buy a used S&W. I have a 586-3 (with Hogue grips and a trigger job done on it) waiting for me at my local shop, costs less than a new Ruger.

Get what you want, a lot cheaper than upgrading in the long run. 357 ammo is expensive, over lifetime ammo cost will far exceed the gun cost.

Save your pennies and get quality... Good used S&Ws can be had on the EE if you're patient. The quality of the older ones can't be matched!

Hear! Hear! on this one. I purchased my 586 (blued) on the EE. Fantastic revolver. Did some minor work on (customized) sights and now have one hell of a good looking, reliable shooter!

Aight, I was planning on being patient any ways but we will see what I can get hehe. I wouldn't want to spend a lot more than 500$ ... might have to wait a bit

I was in this same position last fall. I've wanted a S&W 357mag for the last 20+ years. I almost went the ruger gp-100 because of cost. But I held off and saved my pennies and got a nice SS S&W 686. And I don't reget it for a second. But I would have been kicking myself if I bought anything else.

We can all say what to buy (GP100!) But what YOU need to do, is handle any that you are looking at. Like pistols, they will all feel, and fit differently in your hand. Ask people at your range to try etc... Finding one that fits you is the first thing that you should be looking at.

I wanted a revolver to add to my collection, had my heart set on a python but either they were too expensive or too abused. Then I went to visit SFRC and saw a S&W 686. Bought it and love it. I shoot mostly .38 wad cutters but it is a superb handgun. I highly recommend it
