Does anyone have any suggestions where I can pick a new .357 revolver at a reasonable price ? Now saying that what is a reasonable price ? I've focused mostly on semi auto's and rifles but the wife is new to the sport and wants her own revolver, something she can call her own :D

Hmm, depends on the brand you want. Ruger SP100 goes for about $650, while S&W 686 is around $850. Of the two, S&W is better gun IMO, as it has a forged frame and a better trigger.

My vote goes to the 686, I find that the GP100 has too large of a frame for a revolver chambering .357. What you really want is a 686 and have Gunner, shave 1.75 inches off of the barrel. Now thats a revolver!

A Ruger GP100 will likely fit her hand well, but light it ain't. Take her shopping and try a few on for size.
Any new revolver will need a trigger job.

Ruger GP100 is stronger than S&W 686 but has a heavier trigger...also agree about the weight of the GP100 6in...

if you want a decent .357 at a resonable price look at Taurus Tracker ~$550 stainless and has a small grip- perfect for women ;)

Either Ruger GP100 or S&W 686 are good, I have a S&W 686 and it is VERY VERY accurate. Ruger GP100 is heavier, stronger probably, and new Rugers typically don't have the trigger problem that they had been plagued with for so long. I mean Ruger may not make excellent rifles but their Revolvers are hard to beat, specially for the $$ you are paying $620 NEW? That's a deal right there! If I ever needed another revolver in .357mag (when I have too much $$ lying around) then the GP100 is what I would get.

P&D Enterprises Have these in stock:
Ruger GP100, Stainless
357 Mag.
620.00
NEW

Smith & Wesson 686-6, Stainless 5", 7 shot
357 Mag.
795.00
EX+

Why does it have to be new ?
I think it great that you want a new revolver , don't get me wrong .
But there's usually a bunch of great deals on the EE .

Thanks for all the insight... The reason I said new was I have never purchased a firearm from a private seller and am not familar with the rules etc. involved with a private sale  I also attempted to access the EE page but was denied access...

I thought Massad Ayoob said that?

My vote is for the Smith.

No, I'm pretty sure Jeff Cooper said it.

Forgot to put in my two cents worth on the .357. I'd have to say S&W 686 because I own one. Beautiful revolver, extemely accurate. The only one concern I have about a revolver with a 6" barrel would be the weight and heft of the revolver for a female. (comment not meant to be chauvinistic.)

Italian Sportingoods in Vancouver, Ruger GP-100 for $475 brand new, if they still have any in stock. Last time I was in there they did. Me and my buddy both bought one. Fantastic guns. Same for the S&W though, they both warrant owning. If she's relatively new to shooting maybe stick with a cheaper gun and see if she likes it. Personally I'd stay away from the Taurus at all costs, some people have no problems but if you do you'll have fun getting warranty or service on it. If you want a gun that you can shoot the hell out of and ten years down the road sell it for more than you paid for it today buy a Python! The Ruger, though, does have fairly small grips on it and she may like the Rosewood inlays.

Best advice though, get her out to the gun store to hold them and tell you what she likes and feels comfortable with. If she "likes" it then she'll be happy with it and enjoy shooting it, if she's kind of on the edge, even if it's a superb gun, she won't enjoy shooting it.

You can try S&W model 27. It is a beautifully made gun, very accurate and irresistible stylish. I own one with 5” barrel. For me it is definitely prettier than modern revolvers (except may be some S&W performance center models). You can buy one in descent condition starting from 600.

How about a single action revolver? (cowboy style) my next gun is going to be the 'Colt 1873 Peacemaker' Revolver (by Pietta) from Marstar $479 new.
I will also get a double action at some point but I have a DA in .44 now. This .357 will look good next to my wife's Ruger Single Six stainless

best bet, wait until you can take the little lady to a renal range, and try different frames and weights, and buy what she feels best with. Feels good to yo or me means squat in her hands.
