I have some interest in the .357 SIG cartridge, but less of an idea what firearms I can get it in. I'm aware of the Glock 31, M&P, XD, and Sig 226, but I'd like to know all of the guns I can get this cartridge in, as well as people's experiences with this cartridge.

You pretty well named all of them that we can get in Canada. There's the Sig 229 as well, but that's about the extent of it.

Any .40 S&W autoloader with an after market barrel. I'd avoid the Glock, unless the new barrel is fully supported.

What's the prob, bob? I've used a 357 barrel in my old xd40 with no glitches. It's an entertaining round, no doubt.

No problem.

I just wonder sometimes how most Canadian firearms owners seem to think that this "fully supported / non supported barrel" makes a difference.

Glock's been around for a long time, and very few have blown up, but the one's that have seem to make everyone think that Glock barrels are somehow poorly manufactured, when in fact I'd fathom a guess that 100% of KB's, regardless of the firearm are related to out of battery discharges or improper servicing.

A member at my gun club was shooting a Tangfolio race gun in .357 SIG. Buddy was pretty serious, donned a Team Tangfolio jacket rapid firing all his shots through a chronograph with zen-like composure, answered all my questions with one syllable grunts. .357 SIG is loud.

I actually JUST got a GLOCK 31c. I'm pretty sure it is a supported chamber. Have a look

That IS supported right?

To the OP: I've spent the last 2 months doing all the research I could, to find out about the 357sig. I have a bunch of good links, mostly dealing with reloading...since factory ammo will make you cry. Availability and price are a HUGE issue for me.

I got a 40s&w barrel as well, so I can shoot .40 with just a simple barrel swap.

About halfway down this page theres a list of all the firearms chambered for 357sig, you can find most of them in Canada. ---> http://www.handguninfo.com/Archive/www.Pete-357.com/

Take a peek at the ballistics data for 357sig and compare it to whatever you were shooting before, 9mm,.40,45...You're in for a treat ;)

I have the 229 with .40cal, 9mm and 357Sig.

You can buy Glocks and Sigs and then get an aftermarket barrel. Not sure if there is a 357Sig aftermaket barrle for the M&P.

Get you Sig, Glock or whatever in .40cal and then get the barrel. See Questars website above.

There's no way that's a factory Glock barrel. And if it is, I've never seen one that "supported", ever. Not that I think the support issue is an issue to begin with, but that one looks pretty good.

But you said it was a 31C, and I don't know of anyone making an aftermarket 31c barrel, so I guess it is a Glock factory barrel.

Interesting to say the least. And good buy on that gun. I love the .357 Sig even though I don't have one any longer. Your going to love that gun. But, like you said, factory ammo is a ##### and EXPENSIVE.

If you need factory ammo to start reloading, Pro-Line shooters in Calgary has about a case of WWB .357 Sig @$40/box.

357 barrel w/ Glock logo so I guess it's factory (and the serial number matches to my gun)

But I don't know if the chamber is different because it's newer ('08) or if they're all like that... I hear a lot of people mention the "unsupported chamber" thing. It could be a myth, maybe I got lucky or maybe just doesn't affect the 31's.

On my 40 barrel I have different markings, anyone know what they mean? I'm pretty sure the seller told me that it was a factory barrel but it doesn't say Glock.

Same deal though...there's no gap between the feed ramp and the "extractor notch/ring" of the brass. No Glock logo so maybe it is aftermarket?

I got a heads up on a case here in Ontario, but I thought $28/box was a lot! Maybe I should jump on that deal after all:p I appreciate your help though Targettarget, maybe I'll have to get in touch with them if my local hookup falls through.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread

Interesting thread , ive shot a 226 in .357..... but opted to buy it in 9mm because of the pricey lil' projectiles . Fun gun to shoot though !:bump:

My 226 is chambered in .357Sig, one of my favourite guns to shoot. Once you have the cases, they cost as much as 9mm to reload (same bullets and primer, just a bit more powder). The cases seem to last a long time, too!

By no means; I appreciate the info you guys are providing. How does your 31 shoot?
Haven't shot it yet...scares me too much! :p
No just kidding, I actually haven't shot it yet because I don't have an ATT (just joined a club on Friday) So since I'm going to be waiting around for a while I figured I'll make the best use of the time ...I'm pretty much stuck doing dryfire practices in my bedroom.
On a side note: I've found a good deal of things that I can continue working on without ever having to go to the club. I've been spending time getting my stance right and finding my "natural point of aim", working on my grip, trigger control, sight picture, transitions and so forth. I've found it's really helped me so far, once I get shooting live ammo some things might change but if I build good habits now I'm sure it'll pay off later.

Very cool, I knew they take .355-.356 (9mm) bullets but which ones have you been using? People are saying to stay away from the 9mm RN bullets because theres not much for the neck to grip onto and I can understand that, obviously a FP would be prefered. But most of the bullets I see at stores around here are RN and I'm not sure if they'd work. Most of the reloading recipes I've found suggest 124 Speer or Hornady, both of which are pretty expensive from what I've found.

I know I could order Montana Gold's from the US but I'd prefer to find something thats cheap, plentiful, widely available and will work with the higher velocities of the 357sig. (Some manufacturers say their bullets are only good to 1200fps)
The Frontier ones from Marstar look like they might fit the bill but I'm not sure?

If you could find time to throw together a list of a couple bullets (preferably CMJ or FMJ) that are available in Canada that have worked in your experiences, I'd very much appreciate it :D
