.357 Sig in Canada, viable?

Hello all,

I was wondering if the .357 Sig caliber was viable in Canada? I've done some searching here as well as other forums and dealers sites. It seems the .357 Sig is pretty rare. I'd don't mind that it's rare (I like that actually).

If I was to purchase a .357 Sig, I'd get it in a P229 with switch out .40 S&W barrel just for those times when I want to burn tons of ammo.

But, is the .357 Sig going to be a huge hassle (I know it will be a hassle, but will it be "huge" hassle)? I've seen other boards with members that have it, and say they can get ammo, but how rare and how much of a pain is it?

Btw, I live in Edmonton and can use Calgary as well for sources.

Yes, if I got it, I would plan to reload. As well, like I mentioned, I'd have a .40 for switching out too if for some reason the .357 disappeared of the face of the earth, but from all my research that isn't going to happen.

Thoughts?

Cheers.

I had a Glock 31C for a while. It was never a problem getting ammo in Edmonton. Its just a little bit more pricey then the other major calibres.

It's not hard to find in Edmonton and Calgary. The Shooting Edge usually has some and PD in Edmonton always has some. It's expensive, very expensive however.

The cheapest I ever found it for was at TSE in Calgary for $22/box. I should have bought them out of it, but I didn't and know I regret not doing that.

If you plan to reload, Combat Masters claims they have something like 30K pieces of brass. They don't reload it, just sell the used brass, not sure why. I'd pick up a couple of cases of reloads from them, or whoever should they decide to do it.

If you reload, which you plan on doing, it's a hugely versatile and fun calibre. Bullets are your typical 9mm bullets, so they're easy to find, and brass is easy to find as well.

No big hassles here, I shoot mine every week.

Here is my 229 with 9mm. .40cal and 357Sig barrel

P229 SAS in .357 Sig. I've been thinking of having the barrel shortened down to 106mm like the original .40S&W barrel... it makes quite a bit of difference aesthetically, but is kind of a waste of money. Anyway, here it is with a small cache of factory .357 Sig. The BallistiClean and Gold Dot are from P&D in Edmonton, and the Winchester is from DelSelins in Vernon, BC.

The prices I paid were 35$ per box of Speer .357 Sig 125gr. GDHP, 31$ per box of .357 Sig Federal BallistiClean 100gr. RHT (Reduced Hazard Training) <--- avoid if possible, and 29.95$ per box of Winchester .357 Sig 125gr. FMJ. Not sure if the prices go down in bulk, but I got 4 boxes of Speer and 3 of Federal from P&D, and DelSelins only had two boxes left and I took them both.
