i recently bought a 358315 mould for my 357 mag rifle project. this mould
casts a 204 gr gas check round nose. i chucked the mould in the lathe and
took .107 thou of the top and took the gas GC part off it now a plain base
and casts 183.5 gr rn bullet. i did'nt like the loooonnnng unguided nose
on that thing so i made a little tool and and modified some more. i added a
band to guide the nose into the rifleing. the pic should tell the story.

this is after i machined the top of the mould.

this is the tool i made to make the guide band

in this pic u see the tool in the mould and the before and after bullets with
the band. the band is .351 thou and the bore in my barrel .350 thou.

Nice work! I've milled off the GC from a couple of molds, but never added another band. You have a unique mold - let's see how it shoots.

Andy' i'm waiting for WSS to ship my NEF 357 mag. this is going to be my test bed for lots of experiments. i'm still playing with zinc and have learned a lot.
will post on that when i have the alloy down pat. i converted my 4 cav 44 mould to a top pour for this zinc casting. the base on the bullet is just as
important as the crown on the barrel. i has to be true with no voids and dings.
