358 NM Ammo

Flying in to Canada in a little over 2 weeks, Vancouver, Ft St John, Prince George,so much to do so little time. My problem is that I am carrying a heap of gear and trying to trim it back to the 23kg the airline will allow. My 50 round box of ammo is rather heavy. Is 358 NM ammo easily available? or a little thin on the ground?
 
Generally 358NM is not easy to find in Canada. Most owners load their own.

I would suggest bringing your own and leaving something else behind that would be easier to get here.
 
Bring your ammo or you may as well leave your rifle behind too !!!!!

You may be able to arrange for someone to meet you in Vancouver with a couple boxes with enough lead time...........possibly. It would likely be about 100 bucks a box here though............
 
Bring your ammo. Might even want to split it up between bags. If you're flying, I think it has to be transported in the original boxes, too. (used to be that way)
 
Prior to getting the pair of 358NM's I have,



and in preparation for that day, I lucked out at a local gun show and picked up seven boxes of Norma factory ammo from lefty 338-06. That's the first and only factory ammo I've ever seen available. I have purchased some new unprimed Norma brass from Henry at Budget Shooter Supply but you'd have to inquire about loaded ammo. As others have indicated, you'd be better off, bringing your ammo and leaving behind something else on your list that would be readily available here.
 
Contact Bowmac Gunpar in Stittsville On. they are the one importer who took over when FN Sports shut down.
 
If push comes to shove, you could use 338 brass as long as your rifle headspaces on the belt and not the shoulder. the resulting case would be 20 thou or so shorter.
338 Win Mag is common as dirt in Canada.
 
Thanks guys, maybe just easier to bring my own, got it shooting straight, but 50 rounds is somewhat heavy. Last thing I want is to have my gun with no boolits! Seen that too often while guiding here in NZ.
 
What if you just brought your brass? My bet is there are more than a few guys in the cities you will visit, who would give you the use of their loading room and dies. Powder, primers, and heavy 35 cal bullets are not too hard to find either.

We will gladly do that here if you make it up this far.

X2. :) Your 358 NM ;) 'might' be a little overkill, if you were planning on taking one of our monster Vancouver Island Blacktail Deer. However, if you were here, we could crank out some reloads or burn up some of the Norma factory ammo I have available.

Could always bring a 270, 7Mag, 308, 30/06, 303Brit, 300WM. No prob with that ammo.
 
I would switch cartridges/rifles to one more common here and appropriate for the game you plan to hunt. But if you do bring the .358 NM bring your own ammo also... not just for availability but because I assume that you have and accurate load the rifle is zeroed for... leave your clothes at home if you must, you can buy clothes anywhere.
