Opinions on the caliber? Is it brutal to shoot? Seems not too many makers made them, im told the brno is kind of rare, anyone have opinion on that model? From past experience with cz products id imagine its pretty good

I built one using a CZ 550 Medium in 7mm Rem Mag. Basically a rebarrel with some minor 'smith work. Shoots awesome. Recoil is about the same as a 300WM.

I have one in a model 98. It does have a type of brake on it. I like shooting it, and my friends do to. Reletivly light, easy to carry, shoots great, have yet to harvest an animal. Maybe have a chance on a spring bear

I have a very nice Husky 1651, great rifle, great calibre. For all intents and purposes it matches my 30-06 trajectory out to 300, so I take it to the occasional gong shoot, shoot it prone, and can hit steel easily out to 400 using holdover. I can handle the recoil no problems, shooting prone.

I had one a few yrs ago. It was a 700 action that was re-barreled by Bevan King in a Brown Precision stock. Only weighed 8lb scoped. It was quite easy to shoot at the bench. I give that stock much of the credit for that. A proper stock and stock fit will go a long way to mitigate recoil.

I kept the stock and sold the rifle. That stock has been on 4 different rifles here and will not be sold.

very similar in recoil to the 338 win. I love the 358 norma, had 2 of them. .Both of my 358 normas were built on Ruger MK11 actions. Also had a 358/300 win similar in performance.

12 or so years ago I had a factory CZ 602 358N . Yes it was rare I gather. I shot a bunch of factory Norma 250gr that I had to make brass. It was a big damn action with a 25 inch barrel. 8 1/2+pounds dry or so as far as I recall. Other than prone, I found it entirely shootable, considering it's output (for relativities sake, I will NEVER sight-in a 12 gauge slug gun ever again). I found this guns platform not unlike a 12 gauge receiver with 20 gauge barrels- out of balance for my nut. So's I sold it.
I've been looking for a "suitable" platform for a 358 Norma ever since.
So, if you already have one m1978, my suggestion is to keep it!

Do you already have one? Seeing they are so rare, maybe you have my old one. I sold mine with 7/8" inch of wood cut from the ridiculous 15"+ LOP ( not including butt plate). with 14+ inches left for LOP. It also had the pop-up aperture on the rear bridge.

I have a custom Remington 700 in 358 norma. Love the gun, certainly to nice to put in my saddle scabbard and haul up the mountain on my horse, but she gets the call when i am not hunting on horseback. I load 250gr Hornady SP and it works fantastic on game.

I've got a Dumolin in 358 Norma and have hunted with it on and off for 30 years it's worked just great for Grizzly to deer.If I had to use one gun and caliber it would be the one.

I have 2 358 NM rifles:

First one I had was the BRNO 602 with a factory montecarlo type stock, it is a large rifle, but helps with recoil, unpleasant to shoot of the bench if your recoil sensitive. But this rifle is great standing, and shoots point of aim with the very rugged sights.

Rifle #2 is a Shultz and Larsen, Wich is a model 65DL and is a dream to shoot and carry, by far the superior of the 2 guns.
The BRNO doesn't see much use in the field, compared to the S&L 65DL rifle, hard to find, but worth the money and wait to find one!!!
The CZ custom shop in the US will build you your own 358 NM also!!!
Good luck in your search :)

I have a pair of 358 Normas as well, and:redface: sadly, neither of which has seen field use,;) yet. I was on a search for one in a Schultz & Larsen to go with my other two S&L's for my three gun collection. Prior to acquiring one, I was offered a 358NM in a Husqvarna that initially I turned down. A model 1651 beauty that after seeing pictures of it, :redface:I weakened. Then, I lucked into a model 68DL Schultz & Larsen:d:d. Planned on parting with the Husqvarna, but haven't been able to do so yet.

I built a 358 NM on a Savage action with a heavy sporter stainless Shilen barrel. I bedded it into a Boyd's Laminate stock and added a Limbsaver recoil pad. I do not find it unpleasant to shoot from the bench as it has some weight to it. It is a wonderful calibre (as most of the 35s are). I have done some load work with mine and have found that it shoots the Woodleigh 310 gr bullets the best.... go figure. If I get drawn for moose this Fall, it most likely will accompany me..... or maybe my 35 Sambar, haha.

I got my first 358 Norma Mag, a Husqvarna, in 1969. Mounted a 3X Leupold, put several tons of moose, caribou, and bear in the freezer using it with plain vanilla 250 gr Speer spitzers. Unless I am mistaken, I never used more than one shot on any of the game harvested.

Recoil is certainly substantial from the bench, but reasonably manageable offhand. You will be impressed in many ways if you do get one.
