Checking out the fan-base.
Had a peek at the "Imp. 358 thread", a good one at that. Had me wondering ,who has and uses this round for what-have-you.
I have three. I thinks I found happiness.

While not exactly a .358, I use it's twin, the .356 Win. in a Mdl.94 AE, and think the world of it, I use a 250gr. hardcast flatpoint gascheck bullet and is the only levergun of mine that benefits from a scope, a small 2 3/4 power.

I have the 358 in a small ring Mauser. great little rifle and I have carried it on hunting trips more than any other rifle I own. never connected with it, though. Just bad luck. The one time I got to shoot it, the moose wturned out to be at 425 yards. I had guessed 300, so did not even get clsoe to it. my partner shot it twice through the lungs with a 308.

I also have the 94AE in 356. Same caliber with a rim. Sports a peep sight. It would be the bad weather back up to the mauser.

I find these rifles very powerful, accurate, with lots of good bullets to chose from, including pistol bullets for plinking.

I have a stainless Ruger Hawkeye. So far so good:

That's a great combination, Ben!

A couple of months ago, I managed to track down the Marlin equivalent --- the elusive 336ER chambered in 356 Win. I haven't found any brass yet, so I can't say how it shoots, but to say that I'm excited to have this rifle is an understatement. I have a Lyman 358627 mould (215gr SWC) that is a brute and I'm hoping it'll shoot well in the 356.

I also have a 94 BB in 356. I have only shot 1 deer (an eight point) with it. I have a Williams receiver ight and a Skinner brass front blade on it. A very consistant 1 1/2" rifle at 100 yds. I am presently working on a load with Hornady soft poitys for lever actions, so far so good but not done yet. 356 brass can be a challenge, but can also be made from 307 if you can't find 356, just run them through the resize die.

I had a BLR, and it was a fairly accurate rifle. I could never warm to lever actions though, and sold it here. My current .358 started lfe as a Winchester M70 Lightweight in .243. Bill Leeper rebarreled it, keeping the same thin barrel contour, and blued finish. It's topped with a Bushnell 3200 2-7x scope. It is a scary accurate rifle, and will put 5 shots in to 1 1/4" at 100 yds, and often smaller. With 200 gr Hornady Spire Points or Sierra 225 BTSPs I can hit the 10" gong at 300 with very little hold over, and surprising regularity. I built it with elk in mind, but might take it for WhiteTail if I don't get drawn for anything bigger this year.

Very nice build dragoon7214 :) That's a cool chambering for the revered Model 70 ;) I also considered the .358Win when I was deciding what to chamber in my Fwt. build (decided on .338-06)

I have loaded for but not hunted with the 358Win. I do have a lot of respect for the 35's however, and my Norma would be the last hunting rifle I would ever let go. Flat shooting and hits like a freight train.

I started off with a Remington M600 in 35 Rem. and now use it and a pre 64 M70 FTW in 358 Win and a M70 SS Classic FTW in 358 and a newly aquired Savage 99F in 358, can't get enough 35's, the last one is a M7 MS in 350 RM.
Great calibers all of them with great put down power.

I had an old tang safety Ruger 77 rebarreled in 358 win , it shot 225 nosler partitions very well . It worked great on 2 white-tails and 1 young bull moose ,all 3 went down within 30 to 40 yrds ,all 3 shot inside 125 yrds . I STUPIDLY traded it off for something I had to have, which I also traded off. I currently use a rebarreled 98 mauser with E R Shaw barrel in 350 rem mag . It will put 3 shots of hornady 250 spire-points and reloader 15 under an inch at 100 yrds , I'm not trading this one for anything........... unless one of you guys has a 99-358 , or a mauser 98 in 9.3x62 , or a ruger No. 1 in 375 H&h or god i need help

My main huntin' iron for a good number of years was a Mauser with a shilen 22 inch 358 win barrel. All I ever used was the much maligned 200 grain factory silvertip load. I found it to be an excellent killer on everything I pointed it at, bears, moose, goat, deer.
I have since hunted with many of the popular magnums, and have never had an opportunity in the field where my old 358 wouldn't have brought home the bacon just as well. I think of the cartridge quite highly.
