Where is Why Not? His wife uses the .358 with great success on moose in the Yukon. He also has another friend who has been using this cartridge for many years. IIRC his favorite bullet is the plain old 250gr Speer.
I built one up on a 1908 mauser action, timney trigger, redfieild mts.welded bolt ,and lots of elbow grease on the stock. Only killed a small nuisance bear on the farm( we have sheep now) but he dropped like he was polaxed. JITC
It was explained to me (only repeating, not vouching that it is concrete fact) that 358 brass (like 284 brass) is now considered "seasonal" and every 2 years Winchester makes a batch. May 2009 a batch of 358 was made. Only those that had it on back order received it. Rumor is that some loaded factory ammunition (at $55 per box of 20 ) will be shipping in the near future.
I too would have thought about making it out of 308 but right now even 308 brass in unavailable in Calgary.
