I'm getting a Ruger Frontier Rifle in .358 Winchester. I'm looking for a good load to shoot out of a 16 1/2" barrel. I'm going to be using it for moose and deer so I'm thinking 225 Grain bullets but let me know if you have other suggestions. The rifle has a 1 in 12" twist as opposed to 1 in 16" in my Whelen.

Best regards,

for plinking around you cant go wrong with bulk Remington 200gr. slugs, they also hang a licking on deer and B bear with suprising authority.
For 225's the Sierra's give a good account of them selves, and as usual if you prefer a premium slug the Partitions in 225 are a great bullet.
For powders I'm using Varget exclusively, the cases are very full but case life and velocity are awesome.
Good luck.

The good loads that work well in others rifles will probably not be the best loads in yours - even if only by a grain or two one way or another, even if the powder, primer, OAL, etc is right.

Pick a good bullet for the job, and then hit the range with your loads, targets, and chronograph. For moose and deer, the Barnes 200 gr. TSX should be capable of somewhere between 2500-2600 fps, and enough reach to get out to 300 yards if necessary. My wife has done very well with the 180 grain Barnes, but it has been dropped from their line for lack of interest... go figger.

On the other hand, you could probably just get a quality 225 grain cast bullet with a big flat meplat and still be more than prepared...
