358 Winchester, pet loads..

this is relevant to my interests, I want to make an ultralight 358 rifle with a short barrel for brush busting.

I like the 225 Partition as a good "do all" bullet for the 358Win. In my Ruger Frontier 48.5grs IMR 4895 give me 2345MV from that 16" barrel - http://35cal.com/ruger77_358frontier.html The Speer 220FN could be nicely substituted too (I mainly use them in my 356Win- a rimmed 358Win - it kills authoratively).

I'm about to try 200 TSX bullets which may be good too. The 250 HornadyRNs and 250 SpeerHCs both work for me too for bear hunting. I have a new Hawkeye 358Win I'm feeding now too. I just sold my BLR/358Win which I had for about 16 yrs.

On my "articles" page there are several articles referenced on loading for the 358 - http://35cal.com/articles.html

I mostly use Rem 200gr SPCL with casefull of TAC for 2600+fps in 20" barrel of my Win 88 with excelent accuracy. That bullet is very good penetrator, have high BC, stays in one piece and is cheap too. For heavy bush scouting I have second magazine loaded moderately with Hor 250gr RNIL. In 12 years of using that combo I never been disappointed jet.

I've been using a 250 gr. cast Flat point gas check bullet, and 34 grs. of AA2015 for years in my .356 Win. which is the levergun equiv. of the .358 Win.

Ben, you have seen my BLR in the stainless Laminate. I took two nice bucks with it the other year with factory Silvertips. Im now getting around to working up some loads for the lil girl. I have 200gr Hor RN, Sierra 225gr BT and 250gr Speer sp.

I have tried: IMR4895, IMR4320 and Win 748 in mine under 200 Rem PSPCL and 225 partitions. I dont have access to my notes, but I do remember that I am currently using the 748 for the 200's and 4895 for the partitions. Velocity for the 200's around 2550 and is very shootable, no pressure signs. The 225's @ 2450fps, this is a hot load with some pressure signs, but is like lightning on game, I think it picks them off their feet!

i had good success, accuracy wise, using 50.5 gr.of aa 2520 pushing the 200 gr. hornady sp's. Before that I used imr 4895 with a couple of different bullets. The 225 gr partitions grouped good. I haven't had any luck with the tsx'x yet with this rifle, a blr. I have a 35 whelen now that shoots the 225 tsx'x like they are laser guided so I think I will just have too be content with the 358 shooting the 200's as I don't have the time to play with both.

Our all-time favourite hunting load in three rifles for the past 28 years has been 45 gr of Ball C2 with the 250 Speer Hot Core spitzer and magnum primers: 2250 fps, moose, both bears, caribou, sheep, they just fall over. :)
