thinking of getting one of these. anyone had experience with this caliber? on paper it seems ideal for manitoba, decent smack, nice gun (blr), decent range. from what i've read a reasonable all around performer.

I rebarreled a Stevens 200 to this some time back. I found it a nice gun to shoot recoil wise, and fun to load for. 158 gr hp bullets(designed for the 357 mag) played hell on coyotes, and 200 gr rn were nice in the woods for deer. I never got to try it on bigger critters, but would have no issues shooting moose at 200 yds with the right bullet. In a moment of stupidity, I traded it off for a 22-250.

On a side note, if anyone has a Stevens 200 with a 20" 358 barrel on it in a pepper laminate stock, I would love to buy it back.

I have a BLR 81 in 358 Win, its awesome. You can shoot out to 300+ yds with it. It hits hard and dumps animals quickly and leaves a great blood trail if they even move at all.
I shoot 225gr Nosler Partitions @ 2470fps for everything. Nosler has just released a 200gr Accubond for the 35 cal as well. It should be awesome in the 358.
Hornady loads for it with a 200gr Spire Point and Winchester with a 200gr Silvertip. Handloading is best. The 200gr Hornady SP would be a good bullet too.

I have a BLR in 358, I do like it a lot, however I don't find myself reaching for it on hunting morning, I guess I'm getting softer in my old age, I go for a milder BLR, 257 Roberts or 7mm-08. No, I won't sell it, not just yet, anyway. I'm sure you would love one and make good use of it. Good luck.

I took the plunge late last season.
Paperied it and think it's great.
BLR 81.
She's going to be my go to gal.
Del Selin has one up on his wall.
Not sure why it's still there.
Arm wrestle him for it........... :D

Stuff the case full of Varget, stick a 200gr. Hornady SP on top of it, and watch chit die.

Be prepared to eat to withing a 1/2 inch of the bullet hole, and be prepared to have blood trails a blind man could follow.

Nuff said!
