358 yeti

The purpose of the cartridge is to allow close to 358 Winchester performance in an AR15 (or in Canada one of the similar NR platforms.) that's the whole point.

I certainly agree with you that a .338 caliber is more interesting than ..35 calibers. :)

The purpose of this cartridge is to improve hunting ballistics in an AR platform, unfortunately and sadly limited value in Canada.
The .358 is one of the best hunting cartridges ever developed. Those that speak ill of the .35 cal. make me think of the guy that has never slept with a truly beautiful women. The .375 Ruger reminds me of Rosie Odonnall.

Brybenn, did you ever go down the Yeti road? I’m considering a 12” barrel SBI rifle in one of the larger “AR15 compatible” cartridges, although I’ve never really dug deep into the topic. There’s 50 Beo, 450 BM, 458 SOCOM etc. But the Yeti might be more appealing as it’s made with available 308 brass. I think a 180gr bullet at 2400FPS from a 12” barrel in a 26” overall length rifle might be a fun thing. :)

.35 and .452 bullets are readily available which is more appealing to me than .50 bullets for a Beo, but I’m just starting to look at options and recalled this thread.

Sorry to hear about your wife, hope things improve.

I've been looking at all those options but the 358 yeti sure seems like the winner if you aren't in a straight wall state.

But I have been going around in circles the last couple of days thinking about this and I will probably be going with a 6.5 Grendel with an 12" barrel. With a collapsible carbine stock it will come in at 26" over all length, barely longer than one of the Mares Leg lever guns. It would be a handy bear defense rifle as well as be able to take deer sized game to 300+ yards. Mostly the reason for going for the Grendel over the Yeti is ease of parts, especially now as getting AR parts over the border seems to be problematic. Plus, I have almost 1000 pieces of .5 Grendel brass. :)

Keep us posted if you ever do decide to go with the Yeti !

Will do. Im currently slowly assembling a 338fed now. Should have finished it but i bought another beretta a400 instead. Still have plans for matching pair of 275 rigby and 375 rimless nitro express to but that will likely wait till my house is paid off in a few years. The yeti interests me because it would be a great close to mid range cartridge for bear over bait or in the berry patches. Shooting lighter to mid weight bullets in a light weight mild recoiling platform. Alot of manually operated ar style rifles coming out and tonnes of ar parts sitting idle its still a possibility. I know true north arms will gladly take more of my money lol

I'm really enjoying my 458 Socom, even having great performance with the 405gr powder coated cast bullets I have for my 45-70 and 458 WM.
