358's

If you like the Whelen, why change? Go with your gut, build or buy a lighter Whelen.

I believe another great option would be the 9.3, nut sure how common they are down there.

Sight in at MPBR and you are good to go.

yeah mate I rekon that will be the Go, a second hand tikka 9.3 when one pops up right price shortly,.... $800 or so ready to go.

arnt these the 36 Whelen? haha

I’ve got a 9.3x62 in an old FN Commerical. Very nice chambering.

I use it with 285gr Norma Oryx as my driven pig rifle. With that load, the trajectory is a bit loopy however something like the 250gr Nosler / Barnes bullets (or I think the 232 oryx) would be better for MPBR (And who doesn’t like MPBR in a good hunting rifle!)

Scrummy

Quite a few old Mausers sporting rifles around Australia. You could look around for for one in 9x57 and it would be about what you were looking for, though the drop at 300 might be a bit much.

t3 battue with wood an synthetic stocks, dies an 50 cases wants a Grand, said 800 but will meet in the middle hopefully......

larfing

Given that Otto Bock designed it for Mauser's action around 1905, usually it's called 9.3x62mm Mauser.

Whatever, CZ chambers their beautiful model 550 in this caliber.

The Wagner name is a tribute to Why Not... i own a 550 in .375 H&H, i believe the 9.3 would have been just as good a choice for my purposes.

Are any of these changes/mods killing them any deader?! Naaa, I didn't think so?! ;) Save the $$ on a new firearm and put it towards a trip to Canada for a big game slam down. You've made no shortage of mates on here that would gladly swap you hunts!! And quite a number have 358's I am sure they would be happy to let you hammer something with.

WL...............How difficult/expensive is it to import a rifle from Canada ? I have a 700 Classic in 35 Whelen, I could put in a synthetic stock and bring it well within your weight restrictions and still be able to meet your budget. I also know where I could get a 350 RM in the same rifle for a similar price and weight. I also have a 22" Rem Mod 7 in 358 that meets you're criteria..........Let me know if it's feasible.

22" Rem Mod 7 in 358

Wanna trade for a tikka t3 7mm RM?

:D :nest:

Didn't think so, worth a try though.

Whelenlad Spank is right, I would happily take you out hunting for mule in southern AB. Don't really have enough experience or knowledge of the area to make it worth your while though.
