35Whelen going all "Goth" - semi auto "black" rifle

Strange choice of calibers in that configuration, but hey, whatever cranks your turkey.
I'm with the fellows who prefer the original, but I also detest the look and feel of pistol grip stocks so I'm a little biased.

you need to source a 30 round mag for that thing.

IIRC , there were 10-shot Cloyer (sp ? ) magazines (though they were commonly called "Cloyer clips", again IIRC) that could be used in both the pump-action and semi-automatic versions of this Remington.......although they only came in .308 and .30-06 (not .35 Whelen).......anyhow, Dave Tomlinson used to have great fun toying with the RCMP/CFC folk and asking if the unpinned 10-shot Cloyers were "prohibited devices" or not !....

This rifle with its wood stocks has always functioned/cycled perfectly - never any issues.

However, as commented above, the wood comb, even after being cut down slightly by previous owner, would punch under my cheek bone when using the irons - a real flinch inducer. The Knoxx is lower at the comb and should function better in that regard. Get back to you when I test drive it later in the week,

Supercub - thanks for the history lesson - never saw that one - interesting pic. Proves the old adage - "there is nothing new under the sun". I like the old all steel mags better. But since that was a M742 it was probably NOT a 35whelen - so it loses its appeal for me then.

Looks like a very good rifle to me.

I'd go with a bit of a bigger scope, say a 2-7x33, but besides that, I'm envious it's in your safe and not mine.
