365 days with Ruger SR9

Who has them in stock right now I can't find anyone that has one ...... I thought Ruger was back to production ? !!

How does the SR9 and the SR40 compare? Is the recoil of the 40 much more? Accuracy? I like the pistol but would prefer a 40 at this time due to the availability of brass. Steve

Apparently you got the last stainless one this morning !!!
Foiled again LOL

Oh darn. Sorry, I know they had a couple of the black slide ones left and for what I think is the manufacturers suggested retail price too. ($459.00) They don't mark them up over $500 like everyone else. Sometimes I worry about them. They are one of the few examples of an old fashioned gun store left. I buy as much there as I can. They are a tremendous resource.

Getting your hair cut in the barber shop in the front part of the store is a unique experience. He does a great job and you would be hard pressed to find a similar establishment in Canada.

:D Found one now just have to wait for it to get here :D

thanks for the tips though guys I appreciate the help !!!

It's good you found one. Decided on getting one myself a few months back and found they were back ordered everywhere, so I got a Springfield XDm 9mm instead. Now, I found one of the all Black SR9's at Shooters Choice in Waterloo just a couple days ago. Talk about bad timing for me.

venombite I was there yesterday and got some ammo for it but I never looked while I was there to see if they had the SR9 in stock ..... I guess I should have but the sale was on and the firearms counter was pretty busy. The all black one seems to be more easily acquired but the ones with the stainless slide are out of stock everywhere. I'll be very happy when mine arrives

I installed the Ghost Rocket trigger connector and all the stainless parts and springs available and the trigger and action is light and smooth. I'm thinking that the polished
stainless parts, etc, make for an SR9 with several thousand rounds fired through it...but the lighter trigger with quicker reset is all courtesy of the Ghost. From Rugerforum.com
inquiries I found the reset bar on the Ghost Rocket is cut and polished 1mm shorter, holding to a few thou less, and that's what I went with. It's a world class pistol now.

Well...nearly five months later and I'm back to the range with Ruger SR9.
All good - no problems to report - 150 rounds of the PMC FMJ 124 grain with not a single problem...except for a few empties to the forehead.
All the targets were set at 7 meters today (actually the target retriever didn't let me go any farther due to malfunction).
Next time I'm going to test the pistol with the defensive ammo from Speer - Gold Dot 124 grain.
I have a feeling that everything will be working just fine.
Round count is 870 without a single malfunction of any kind.
Thanks!

Mine is an early model (note mag release button). No problems in a couple thousand rounds so far. Might work on the trigger down the road to get it a little smoother, but the pistol is accurate and never misfires!

Today the pistol passed 1000 rounds mark.
I ran 100 FMJ 115 grain Remington rounds, 10 EFMJ Federal Guard Dog 105 grain rounds, 20 GDHP Speer Gold Dot 124 grain rounds and finished the session with tha mix up magazine full of everything (loose mix up ammo that I had in my treasure box - reloads, Remington Golden Sabers and good only knows what else). 138 rounds all together...and - no problems to report.

I guess it's time to write something about my experience with Ruger SR9.
If I'm going to keep this pistol (which is very likely) I'll need to replace the sights - the dots are bit too small for my liking and I would love to have them bigger and more visible (especially under low light condition).
I don't like the safety at all and can't understand why it's even there. I heard about the problems that the owners of SR40 encountered during the long range sessions.
While gripping the gun high the safety kept banging their palm and did cut the skin.
Not fun and I certainly can see that with more recoil.
Ruger, please take away this safety.
Big loaded chamber indicator is another possible problem, but only if You do carry that gun in the holster.
I certainly can imagine that such a big piece of metal may catch on holster easily.
Smaller would be much better.
Otherwise I can't think about anything else to improve.
Very nice trigger, good ergonomics, superb reliability in the good looking, accurate and inexpensive gun.
You have it all there!
No extensive wear visible anywhere.
Just take a look:

So far so good.
Round count - 1008 with no problems at all.

I forgot to mention about the discovery that I made today.
I decided to change my grip and shooting stance from the very classic Weaver to this one:

Ruger SR 40 and Recoil Mngmnt Gun Talk Ruger 5 25 10 JARE H264 16X9 gun talk - YouTube

To my surprise that new stance resolved the problem of the empties banging at my forehead. Completely.
Now all are flying high to the right at about 4 o clock position.
Back to Weaver and the problem did re-appear occasionally.
I just need to improve accuracy with this new stance as it's not as good as with my original stance.
Good thing is that there is literally no recoil now...pretty cool...ehhh :)

You can easily modify the loaded chamber indicator so it stays there (more so so there isn't a large empty slit in in slide)...but no longer lifts up when a round in in the chamber.
