365 days with Ruger SR9

That is certainly a good idea - especially for the concealed carry purpose.
I think that Ruger went way overboard with this one.
During the testing I would like to keep it stock though - just to make sure that the basic configuration works.

They have always been a big fan of trying to make their guns super safe and idiot proof...warnings on the gun, drop safe, safeties, lock out devices, loaded chamber indicators and so on. They also do some of these things to be legal in Cali

While answering to some question I disassembled the gun and discovered one thing that I missed previously.
Look at the top front of the chamber, please...

Slight wear in form of peening at the spot were the chamber block hits the inside of the slide when the pistol is fired.
Seems like it's a typical issue with SR series of pistols.
I'll stay focused on that spot in the future to let You know if it'll get any worse. So far it didn't affect the function though.

Nestor...my SR9 had 2,500 rounds through it and it looked about the same...its kinda like holster wear, it only goes to a point. My buds USP does the same thing...wears the finish off a little bit but that is all...its not accumulative after the first 500-1000 rounds.

Thanks for your feedback Jeff.
I promised to disclose all the good and...possibly bad things about this pistol at the start of this thread.
It's probably nothing - exactly as You said, yet since I missed that originally I decided to provide an update.
Glad to hear about your positive experience with SR9.
Seems like a nice and inexpensive alternative to the most popular pistols on the market.

Update ?

... I've heard some good things about the Ghost connector for this pistol, but my intention is to keep it stock for this coming year. It's definietely getting lighter and cleaner after just two trips to the range though.

I got an early model (prior to the recall) on the EE here quite some time ago and have only recently started to shoot it regularly. They apparently improved the trigger on the later production SR9s. Mine was a kind of "springy" and not all that smooth. I finally installed the Ghost Rocket connector, as well as doing some polishing of internal contact points and it now is very smooth and quite a bit lighter. Yours probably has a better trigger than mine did even w/o the Ghost upgrade, but all the comments I remember about the Ghost connector were positive so it might be worthwhile for yours as well. Once you have a few hundred rounds through it you'll know whether you might want to upgrade. But I'd guess that yours will smooth out just fine.

I'm just hoping the SR45 doesn't appear on dealers' shelves any time soon because I'll probably want one, even though I have an STI Spartan 1911 hat I really like.

:)
I was forced to sold most of my firearms over the period of few weeks, but in the end I'm at the point where I wanted to be, since landing in Canada 5 years ago.
Sooner or later I'll slowly re-build my small collection. Currently awaiting Walther PPQ to arrive ;)

Always liked these guns.
My co worker had one he got new, he put 50 rounds down it then sold it to me for 1/2 price.
Not unusual for him, he does that all the time..... And no he is my friend you can't meet him!

I kept it because my wife likes it better then the glock or m&p since its thinner.
I imagine my kids will like it better as well since it is a smaller framed gun.

At the end of the day it's a beauty gun, and the price makes it a fantastic gun!

This thread is awesome, helped me a lot in finding a 9mm striker fired pistol with a smaller grip for my wife. The Ruger SR9 seems to fit the bill quite nicely. Unfortunately she does not find my G17 gen 4 very comfortable with the smallest grip, hope one of these SR9's will be good as she wants to start combat style training.

Thank you Nestor for your insight into this pistol.

Was it a fellow gunnutz member who bought your pistol? Wouldn't it be cool if they saw this and carried on the updates. Anyway I'm in the market to pick one up.
