Right side of the barrel reads: FIREARMS CO. BRIDGEWATER ENGLAND. Left side reads: ADANAC ALPINE SUPREME.

Google search does not turn up any info on the manufacturer. Can anyone on this forum tell me anything about the manufacturer? How long they were in business, what other firearms they made, etc.?

I have an ad from a 1973 catalog showing 3 models of Alpine rifles, the supreme,custom and sporter.
the address is Firearms co. ltd, colley lane, Bridgewater, somerset, England
from the pics yours could be the custom or supreme.
They look pretty well identical to a parker hale, I wonder if they were somehow associated??
 
It's hard to tell, but I don't see an extractor typical of a 98 action. The rest of it looks "98". :confused:

It looks indentical to the BSA monarch.I had one years ago and happened onto a used one this morning in Wholesale Sports here in Kamloops.
Same country of origin and same era,same tooling different Banner?RB
 
"...ADANAC..." Read it backwards. Likely one of hundreds of commercial rifles built on modified Mauser actions made for our market.
Had a Russian made O/U shotgun with the 'ADANAC' moniker, long ago.

The Alpine was one of many different OEM brands of rifle put out by Parker Hale.
'98 actions with excellent bluing and finish.
Some were ground to push feed, and some were CRF.
The Alpine I bought from Klondike Arms in '78 was a push feed, but my friend's was CRF.

Fine rifle IMO.

My first .30-06 was an Alpine Model Special made by Firearms Co., Bridgewater, England. Took my first bull moose and buck mule deer with that rifle. Sadly, I had to sell it to pay the rent back in '80s recession :mad: Dark days indeed back then :(

What a fantastic birthday present. Obviously it really means a lot to you....you've kept it 37 years, you've certainly cared for it, and you want to show it off. I bet that the story behind this rifle is even nicer than the gun itself. Here's to another 37 hunting seasons!
 
I have an Alpine Special model in .30-06 here that belongs to my wife's stepdad. Good solid looking, well made rifle, using a converted military 98 action in this case. It's a bit heavier than my Ruger .30-06, but not unbearably so. Also due to age and storage, the recoil pad on it has dried out, which I am in the process of replacing with a grind to fit pad. The old one is so age hardened, it is crumbling, and has as much give as a steel buttplate.

It is factory drilled and tapped, but presently unscoped as he has not used it in in a number of years. Near as I have been able to find out, it uses the same mounts/rings as a Parker Hale (FN Mauser mounts). Can anyone confirm this, as I would like to pick up some bases and rings for him, as he would like to scope it and start using it again?
 
I have had several Alpines. The latest went to a CGNer in BC before Christmas ...It was a 243 and a fantastic rifle.

Extremely similar to a Parker Hale . A good sturdy huntin rifle.

Yours looks pushfeed to me. The bolt is different config to most parker hales with true 98 action.
 
I'm tidying up a Alpine Supreme for my brother-in-law right now. It seems to be well made, except the trigger. The trigger is a Firearms Co. adjustable with side safety, which is not to be trusted. Otherwise, it has a standard CRF '98 action, stamped "Spain" on the LH side of the rear tang. It was also suffering from a fossilized recoil pad, but I replaced it with a Limb Saver grind-to-fit.
