375-338 load help

those buff bullets were pretty light for caliber, those old bullets had thinner jackets on the light, then thicker as the weight went up iirc?
Or just less lead exposed? something made the heavies penetrate far better than the 'deer' loads

You know, I have a nice Brazilian 98 all polished up sitting here looking for a barrel, this .458 I’m building, has 2 custom stocks my grandad build for it, one in walnut and one in rosewood. The barrel channels are big due to the .458 pipe, I’d like to use this Brazilian 98 in one of his stocks, the 35 Whelen and 416 Taylor have been what I’m tossing around, a .375 whelen, hmmmm sounds pretty cool too!!

haha if you like the sound of it, il go one further an say that one of the dudes elmer? or whelen himself icrrn , used to love the 400 whelen! i think its got a tiny shoulder off top of my head.... ha ha

i think the 375 whelen is a sweet spot
 
That is some great history with your grandfather's rifle... and a very nice rifle. From your ladder test, it would seem that 64.0 H4895 is your "boo" with the 260 Partitions.
