I just picked up this Ruger No1 in .375 Ackley Improved. Gun comes with die set & 40rds of loaded .375 Ackley Improved. As far as I'm aware though, In order for me to get more brass, all I need to do is fire form some .375H&H though it correct? Only ####ty part is the front sight was pushed back to 20" and the other 4" was turned into a ported none removeable muzzle break. So my loads with .375H&H in my 24" barrel Whitworth will probably be the same velocity as the .375 Ackley Improved loads from the 20" barrel. I will have to test it and find out. Loving the .375 Caliber guns. I own 3 now. I saw a .375H&H Browning A-Bolt that might come home with me too. I'm going to take the scope off because I prefer iron sights in any rifle.

First thing I would do is whack that wart off the end of its nose. You can just fire your full house 375 H&H loads in it, and your brass will be formed. Most people report decent accuracy even when fire forming
 
Awesome caliber, I had one that shot Nosler 260s at speeds and accuracy that nobody on the internet would believe.
I found the recoil more manageable than a light 300WM

The pad on the bottom came off an A-Bolt 375mag. The middle pad from a std M700 and the top was a grind-to-fit of much better size for the task.

Not hard to figure that one out. I would never buy an A-Bolt in any magnum chambering but do have one in 22-250 that came from the Yukon years ago that remains a favourite till this day.

The one that I found for sale has a muzzlebreak installed and very nicely done too where who ever did it contoured the break to match the front sight instead of chopping it which I’ve seen some poorly done muzzlebreak installations. It also has a stupid thick Limbsaver recoil pad. I think it’s called the Nitro grind-to-fit Limbsaver. Not sure if that would make a difference.

Also when I was looking for .375 Ackley Improved reloading data, I always ended up on other forums with people saying to use .375 Weatherby load data. Is this true?
 
No quite true.

As always, you will have to work up loads for that particular rifle. Especially since the 375 Wby has more than half an inch of freebore.

Your 375 Ackley Imp may or may not have long freebore, depending on the reamer used. If it were me, I would start with maximum 375 H&H loads, and go from there.

I put a spacer under the fore end to move the pressure point off the barrel and the groups went from 3 1/2" to 1 3/4" @100M. I backed down the velocity a couple hundred fps because with a 1.5-5X mounted I'm not looking to reach way out and the ballistics aren't bad anyway. Recoil without the brake gets interesting at 2940 fps w/270s. Not miserable, just need to pay attention, like living with a strong minded lady. The brake makes a difference for sure, but it needs a crush washer to be timed properly. Sure is a handy package of a rifle with a 24" barrel to boot. I'm yearning for a new CZ457 so this one might have to go though.
 
I tried max 375H&H loads and got shoulder denting from low pressure not sealing the necks. Moved up to mid range 375 Weatherby loads and all good.
