Any experience with the 375 for black bears. Acquired a very low use 1980 Big Bore 375 awhile back and I’m thinking of using this spring. Which factory ammo do you recommend?

I have owned a couple BB .375's... shot a couple meat does with them and they did as good a job as anything... I have had eight or ten clients use them on bears over the years with predictable results... short blood trail, dead bear. Pretty much any factory ammo made is going to cleanly kill your bruin.

Thx, that helps, unfortunately I don't reload anymore, so will likely be looking at factory loads. They seem a bit tough to locate. I do have 30 rounds of the original big Bore ammo that came with the gun. I’m reluctant to use it. Its in the original boxes, is there any collector interest in this type of thing? If not there’s likely enough there to get it done.

Winchester only does a run of ammo every couple of years. I recently inherited one of these rifles, so have been doing some research. There is no ammo at distributors in Canada at the moment, from the sources I used.

Buffalo Bore does make a regular loading for this rifle, but you will have to get it imported by someone....not cheap to do.

I shot a small buck with mine this past season, and it worked as well as anything else I have used. The gun is a very nice carry firearm.

The 375 Win has worked very well for me for black bear, moose and caribou over the years, in my Marlin. Call it "Thumper" as every black bear has thumped the ground promptly. One of my favourite bear hunting cartridges! Best of luck with yours!
Have used the Winchester ammo with 200 gr Power Points on all of these, and it has worked very well.
Have also owned a few Winchester Big Bores over the years, and have just acquired another one.

Winchester made another run of ammo last year and there is some on dealers shelves currently. They are running about $90+/- a box, dependent upon the dealer.
HSM is also making ammo with the 200 gr Sierra bullets, and is better priced, if you can find it. I ordered mine in through P&D in Edmonton. Will try it in my new-to-me BB when it gets here.

I also handload, and the 220 gr Hdy FP over 32.2gr of IMR4198 produces 1" groups @ 100 yards in the Marlin with a Leupold 2.5 scope with heavy duplex reticle.

Winchester also made a 250gr factory load which is like a modern 38-55 on steroids .........not sure why they made a 200gr?

Try these guys, last mountain reloading. They have a website if you google the name. Very reasonable prices and good to deal with. If memory serves they charged me $32/box using my brass for .348 using 200gr hornady fp bullets.

I’ll give them a call. Appreciate the help everyone.

I do have a hundred new Winchester brass, so that might work out ok.
