Hello all,

Well my girlfriend just surprised me with a really nice gun that I've been talking about forever. A new Model 70 Alaskan in .375 H&H. Yes it was a shot show special and very few brought into Canada. I love the gun and obviously the girl too.

Anyways, where should I start for bullets for moose, deer, bear etc. I would like to try and stick with one bullet for all. Also, which powders and primers should I be trying? I haven't looked at any data yet in the manuals as they are all at my brothers house. What is everybody's favorite loads around here and for what purposes.

I use a 270gr Barnes tsx with reloader 15 powder and a Federal 215 primer. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot much of anything this side of elephant with that load. If I recall I can get right around 2800fps with that load, and the 270gr tsx has a very good ballistic coefficient, so anything inside 300 yards should be very doable.

I do use a second load shooting 220gr hornady flat points for gophers, just because I'm too cheap to use tsx's on them, however those 220gr hornady's are designed for the 375 win, and are too lightly built for anything bigger then a coyote, at the velocities of the H&H, at least in my opinion.

Good luck with the gun, I'm sure you'll enjoy it very much, I love my H&H. Great catch on the girl too.
 
I load 72 grains of RL15, a CCI BR2 primer, and a 300 grn Nosler Accubond,,,velocity hangs right at 2670 fps, and it kills anything on feet,,even waaay out there.
 
Personally I'm using H4895 (69.0gr), cci mag primers, and 300gr TSXs but I would say go with the 250 TTSXs or the 270 TSXs as the copper bullet doesn't need the extra weight(I'd switch myself but then I'd have to do load development again...). You might as well go for speed with them as they will hold together regardless. If your gun doesn't like them at all I'd try the nosler e-tips or hornady GMX bullets. As you can tell I'm a fan of copper. :D

The 220gr hornadys for the 375 win act like varmint grenades out of the H&H. Just so you know. ;)
 
270 TSX, RL 15 and CCI 250. I've used this load in Africa and beaned 2 hippos with it amongst other things and it kills very well and penetrates very well. I would have no qualms banging an Elephant in the bean with this load and very nearly did, in Zambia.
Next week it goes back to Africa for a lion and Bongo and other asstd critters.
This combo shoots 3/4" groups in my 700 Rem and exceeds 2900 fps.
 
I shot two Buff's with 270gr. Hornady spitzers. One shot kills, dropped in their tracks at 100 and 150 yards. 1800 and 2200 pounds. One bullet recovered, squashed flat against the shattered spine. Core and jacket stayed together. BTW, the backbone was bigger then my thigh, and the buff was 28 inches thick through the hump. In other words, it was 28 inches from the top of the hump to the inside of the cavity. I also like to use the Speer 235gr. semi spitzer. It's a HotCor bullet that stays together well.
 
Was looking at some of the TSX bullets, etc. They are not cheap.

Which SP are you talking about? SP-RP or BTSP?

Any other good bullets other than the TSX and TTSX and Noslers or should I just break down and get some.
