375 H&H for all

Here ya go. A 270 gr Hornady Spire Point at 1200 fps did the deed(s). Now I'm shooting cast for small game, but a .375 is wonderfully versatile.

Sweet! I am sold!

My 3rd 375 H&H is in the mail, here's my other 2, defiantly my favorite cartridge to shoot, just the right amount of kick, I can shoot it all day, decent price to reload:

The one at the back is a '85 Brno ZKK 602, factory engraved, Leupold VXIII 1.5x5, holds 6 down, the front one is my newly aquired (and long looked for) '68 ZKK 602, with factory peep sights. Got it from a fellow gunnut, one of my best purchases. And I have a Ruger #1 Stainless 375 H&H in the mail.

I have yet to try anything under 300gr, I'll be picking up some 270gr to do some load workup with.

Edit, thought I would throw a pic of the engraved one in there to:

How much did the engraved one cost you if you don't mind me asking? Looks like the type of hunting rifle I will be looking for next year.

I sold off my 30-06, 450 marlin and my tw0 338's because all I want to use is my 375 ruger. But then I found a 375 H&H, so its a toss up what I take. Both use 300 grain factory loads. But I am going to load 300 grain Noslers for my Ruger and goto 260 grain Accubonds for my H&H. I also have a 375 Winchester, but I just just look at that one.

cbabes, my ZKK 602 in 375H&H really likes the 300gr Hornady rn. lighter pointy bullets group bigger. It kinda takes out the versatility of bullet choice for me, so I shoot everything with the big bullet loaded pretty warm.

You could definitely do worse than a .375 H&H for your all around rifle. Really, you'd want to be able to reload for it, and practice lots, then you'll be able to squeeze every bit of performance out of your rifle.

I used my Sako Hunter lV in 375 H&H for years on everything put down rabbits, black bears, moose and deer with it.

I always used 300gr Partitions @ 2475fps you could eat up to the hole on everything finally sold it to a friend that had wanted it for years.

My new favorite rifle/cartridge combo is my Rem 700 LSS in 375RUM with 300gr Partition's, Swift A-Frames and for long ranage 300 + yards shooting 300gr Siera Gamekings @ 2800fps.

I can understand bear and moose, but rabbit?
If you don't mind me asking, what did that waskily wabbit look like afterwards, was there any meat left to eat? :D

tkv000,
I had a #1 in .416 Rigby that I could shoot from all field positions. I doubt if the factory recoil pad will cause you any discomfort.

He lies!!! The factory pad says "Goodyear" on the underside (I #### you not!). Swap it out for a Limbsaver or Pachmeyr and you'll thank me in the long run.

I don't think so. When I ordered the rifle I expected to have to change the pad to a Decelerator, but upon arrival found that the factory pad was pretty squishy so I didn't need to. This isn't the red rubber pad found on some of the bolt guns and the earlier #1's, but if that what you got, then yes a Limbsaver or a Decelerator would be a useful upgrade.

Mines a black pad, says Ruger on it, and in a pinch I think I could use it as a hammer, its quite hard. I haven't slipped out to the range yet to test fire, just just shouldering the rifle, it feels quite hard. I'll still give it a try, but I anticipate it being changed.
