375 H&H for Deer??

The 235 gr Speer Hot Cor, ahead of IMR 3031 is very accurate, and always worked for me when I wanted a "light" load for black bear. It is very easy on the shoulder, and very hard on the bear.........

I'm sure it will work on deer. :)

Right! ...... I contacted Speer about this bullet years ago and asked them about using it for deer. They told me this bullet was designed for just that purpose.

It would be my first choice.

I shot a blacktail and a black bear last year using 270gr TSX's. Deer won't really care what you are using.;)
How big was the exit on the deer? I was going to use them in mine this year to save time finding a deer load, but was having second thoughts using a 270gr TSX on a deer.

It might not be the best choice for deer size game but I have use 375h&h 235gr and 300wm 150gr on deer before.

I could not believe my eyes when I saw the exit wound on both deer both animals drop on its track (both were taken just under 200 yards) and the exit wound on the one shot by the 150gr 300wm was devastating, its has fist size exit wound and lots of meat was destroyed.

And to my surprise the 375 does very little damage my buddy was using his 30-06 with 220 gr bullets and the damage done on both deers is not much different.

If you ask me if the 375 is over gun for deer the answer is yes but will I use it again on deer size animal: for sure why not especially in bear country and although the deer couln't tell the difference what you shot it with but you will sure raise some eyebrows when you show up the hunt camp with a 375h&h:p

I've only shot one deer with my H&H so far, but was with 270gr tsx's and didn't seem to have any more damage then other rifles.

If you decide to go with a lighter bullet, stick with 235 tsx or 235 speer hotcores, as the hornady 220 flatpoints are designed with a thinner jacket for the 375 win from my understanding, and will likely do more meat damage then the 270gr's.

However them same 220's are excellent on gophers!

If you shoot the 375 have at it I've been doing it for over 25 years with various h+hs I've had I've used 235 speers 270 hornsdys and 300s funny thing about the 375 you can set up to shoot different grain bullets with the same point of impact I've also shot 1 with my 416 rig using a woodleigh soft point deer don't seem to know the diff and I've shot a fee with a 300 weatherby that has torn deer in half. I prefer the 375 over the hot 300s and now moving to a dirty 30 for a while just lighter to carry . Only downside would be the weight of the rifle again have at err I know quite a few have also
