well im revamping my hunting rifle collection sold the tikka 6.5 despite it being a good shooter, can't handle all the plastic keeping my cz 550 manlicher 308 but got friends in south africa and will be hunting there im undecided between the win model 70 in 375 H&H or a cz or voere in 9.3X62 any advise?

I guess it will depend on your personal preference and what your planning to hunt . The 9.3 will most likely be lighter to carry and hold one or more rounds in the magazine over the .375 depending on which one your considering.
On the otherhand the .375 will have about 150-200 fps or a little better on it with the same weight bullet.

375H7H just a bit classier and if you have one built it doesn't have to weigh 10 lbs. mine is 8lbs 6oz with a 3x9 luep. trajectry is similar to a 30 06 with 180 grn. good enough to hit out to 300 yrds.

I think the 9.3 is every bit as classy as the .375, plus it recoils less and is usually chambered in lighter rifles. If you are hunting really big game, check the regs. Some countries set the minimum caliber at .375.

If you know for sure you won't hunt dangerous game the 9.3 would do the job well. The 9.3 is not legal for dangerous game in in some places, in RSA it depends on which province you hunt in whether the 9.3 is legal for dangerous game or not. That said, I chose to go with the .375 H&H because it is legal for everything and everywhere. With 260 accubonds or similar bullets It also has a little more reach that the 9.3 for plainsgame in more open areas. I suggest you talk to your friends about what and where you will hunt before making a decision on what rifle to buy.

Both the 9,3x62 and 375 H&H will serve you well. The area / terrain in which you will be hunting may be a factor to considder.

If you are going to creep around after bushpig or bush buck, the 20" CZ550 Full stock may serve you much better than a 25" BRNO or 26" Win Alaskan in 375 H&H.

Load the 250gn Barnes for both calibres (T TSX in 375) and you will be able to take almost all animals.

Do not overlook the great 375 Ruger. I have owned and hunted with a 375 BRNO 602 in South Africa, and have owned a great Tikka T3 in 9,3x62 here, but have moved on to two 375 Ruger rifles (one African, one Alaskan), and believe this compact but powerful combination, offers you the besy of both worlds.

If recoil may be a factor to considder, go for the Ruger Hawwkeye African or CZ 550 in 9,3x62.

They are equally cool, which is to say VERY COOL!!!!!

If the 375 H&H is the legal minimum where you intend to hunt that makes your decision for you on cartridge.

No reason not to buy the CZ in 375 though.

I'm a big fan of both. Both are perfectly adequate for Buffalo but light for Elephant. The new Model 70 Alaskan is a classy looking rifle and if I was in the market for one I would give it a lot of consideration. I need to fondle the CZ a bit to see if I like it or not. The set trigger doesn't turn me on but if the unset trigger is crisp then it wouldn't be a big deal. I have a Husqvarna M98 in 9.3x62 (the official hunting rifle of CGN rifle cranks) and it's a great rifle to carry. 7lb 11oz loaded with a leather sling. Plenty of power for anything you'll run across in North America (Check out Why Not?'s grizzly and my bison if you doubt) in a nice portable package. Bullets that range from 232gr to 320gr (plus some 95gr Hornady pistol bullets for the 9x18 Makarov that would be fun to try for plinking or small game) and ranging from soft to extremely rugged construction. I'd take mine to RSA or Namibia if I was headed back for plains game.

The only other question I would have is how easy is it to get ammo for the 9.3X62? Botj are great rounds I agree and the 375 H&H is legal for more game then the 9.3X62. It may be difficult to get ammo for the 9.3x62 then the 375H&H.

I don't think you will regret your choice of the Winchester in .375 H&H. Are you looking at the Alaskan model or the Safari Express. I had a .375 in the new Safari Express and it was a great gun. I sold it when I picked up a custom Mauser but have no comlaints about the Winchester.
