.375 H&H questions

That's because Tropicals have heavy barrels. And they weight in at 9lb before base and scope. I'm getting one in 375 H&H just because, and I don't plan on scoping it anyway. Well, maybe for sighting in I will.

I've got a No.1 Tropical in 375 H&H, I mounted a NECG Peepsight to the back, its an excellent sight for the No.1

I also changed out Rugers Hard as hockey puck recoil pad, my shoulder thanks me everytime I pull the trigger.

They are a sweet looking rifle....In my opinion the nicest looking production rifle made.

Get a scope on and you own a ten pound rifle.
Just about right for a 458Lott. ;)

Yup, not featherweights for sure. The 375s do have a slightly smaller barrel the the 458s and Rigby. My Stainless Classic with 22" barrel comes in just under 9 lbs scoped. Not the lightest 375 but handy a very accurate. Now if I can just find enough Rel. 15 to keep her going till hunting season.

Don't pass on a used rifle in the EE.

There are some good deals there on good rifles. 375s tend not to get shot alot, so condition is usually pretty good and the prices very good compared to new. Spend what you save on reloading gear instead.

I went into a local sporting goods store and just for the heck of it I looked at 375 H&H ammo. 99.99/20 for the fancy winchesters in the nickle cases! I just about shat my pants when I saw that. Boy im glad I reload!

I hear ya! I acquired a Brno ZKK 602 in 416 Rigby from a fellow gun nut, I hadn't acquired dies yet, but I have all the brass and projectiles (started collecting them before I got the gun). So I was up in the big city, figured I'd swing by WSS and treat myself to a box-o-factory 416 Rigby to tide me over until my dies came.

$225 for a box of 20! I looked at the guy behind the counter, laughed, and walked out, I can wait for the dies thanks very much.
 
Winchester is not currently chambering for the .375 since they resumed production of the model 70 at the new facility (since closing the New Haven, Connecticut plant). Any you find will be used or NIB previous manufacture. I've got a .375 H&H Winchester Model 70 Stainless thats either a Super Grade or custom shop piece. Sako also chambers rifles for the cartridge. I've found ammunition in Calgary recently costing anywhere from $58/box to over $100/box. Hornady, Norma & Federal are in my ammo locker, I've yet to get dies for this chambering, but soon will.
 
There's a lot of things they no longer do with the Model 70 since moving out of Newhaven, like making left handed actions for one thing.

I miss the old Winchester... :(
