Has anyone converted a 444 Marlin to a 375 JDJ ? Is it a worthwhile chambering ? I would be using it for deer , bear , moose and elk . Most likely with the 220 gr. Hornady FP around 2400 fps. Or would a 356 Win be as good ?
I have been using the 444 Marlin with the Speer 300 gr. Uni-Cor at 2200 fps with devastating results on moose . I just want a mid-bore Marlin lever action with more punch than the 35 Rem as I hunt deer more than anything . I would like a little more reach than it offers .
Thanks guys :)

I just purchased a Browning BLR 81 in 358 WIN ( steel receiver ) in very good shape . That should scratch my itch for a bit .

Have you thought about trying a lighter load in the .444 instead? I'm guessing a 240 grain Hornady HP/XTP at 2100 fps would be absolutely lethal on deer, and have a lot less recoil than your current moose load.

Yes I have tried lighter bullets in my 444 but it doesn't like them . Recoil is not a problem . I shoot a 350 Rem Mag in a Md 7 CDL and a 700 in 375 H&H Mag also . I just like Marlin lever guns . I think it would be kinda cool . Hard to find a 356 Win. in a Marlin , there is one on here in a Win . 94 Big Bore though ....
Are they as solid as a Marlin ?

If I ever came across a .444 with a crap barrel or ever shot mine out I would like to build one in .375 JDJ , but I would never give up my .444 to do it. I think that it would be a sweet rifle. the .375 ballistics look good in the contender length barrels . the numbers would look even better ot of a 22 or 24 inch barrel.

Very solid - I like mine.
But did you mean "sold"?
Only 2441 Marlins were ever made in that calibre (336ER) so usually you can't find them for sale - except at somewhere between $1000 and $2000 - and then very rarely seen at that.
