I have been looking for a rifle in .375 H&H for a while and but have missed out on a couple.

Well I noticed the Winchester M70 Alaskan in .375 H&H was 300 bucks off today and could not hold back.

Hopefully here soon.......can't wait to get some loads worked up.

I predict that's going to be a keeper. I handled a M70 Alaskan in Saskatoon Cablela's the other day, the only thing that held me back from buying was that it was not in .375.

You're going to like it. Mine comes in at a bit under 8.5 pounds scoped and handles like a hunting rifle instead of an express rifle feel. In my mind the .375 will get more use outside of Africa if it doesn't weigh a ton.

I have an Alaskan in 375 H&H. Very nice rifle, handles and points well. Accuracy is good. Topped off with a Leupold VX3 1.5X5. I am sure you will be very pleased with your new M-70.

Thanks mrgoat, I like the VX3's as well. I haven't decided yet between the 1.5x5 or the 2.5x8.

Didnt think they were so light. Now you got me thinking...

It says 9 lbs bare on Cabela's website, 8.5 on other websites. What kind of a scope you got on there?

It gives a similar weight on Winchester's site too. Retailers will mindlessly repeat whatever the official number says. I have no idea where they got that weight from.

My .375 weighs a bit more than my .270 Feather-weight, and a bit less than my Cabela's 50th Super-grade Feather-weight that also happens to be in .270. Heavy wood on that one sort of puts a joke into the feather-weight moniker, "Short barrelled Super-grade" is what they should have called it. Leupold scopes straight across, 2 3.5-10s and a 4-12. The Alaskan has a slender barrel with a big hole in it and a hollowed out stock. It doesn't weight much different than any other Winchester wood stocked sporter. By contrast my .458 African Express is over 10 pounds scoped.

Interesting. Most manufacturers don't take much effort in listing correct weights. Really the only one I've seen is Kimber, where they have it down to ounces between calibers.
Hopefully that stock holds up to the 375.
