375 on sale at Cabela's

You're going to like it. Mine comes in at a bit under 8.5 pounds scoped and handles like a hunting rifle instead of an express rifle feel. In my mind the .375 will get more use outside of Africa if it doesn't weigh a ton.

Agreed, Talkeetna is a more expensive take on the same concept, no actual increase in effectiveness of course. This is a very good deal with the way prices are headed, I'm tempted.

I have a .338 Win M70 Alaskan. Really nice rifle. Action was pretty smooth right out of the box. With scope & mounts it comes in at just over 10lbs. Don't forget to "break" the barrel in properly. I have a Nikon Monarch 3 2.5-8x32 on my 338 with Talley rings/bases. If I didn't already have a BRNO 602 in 375H&H I would get another M70. You'll enjoy the 375. Great choice!

I haven't handled an Alaskan, but they look like a right nice rifle. If I was to buy one, it would be in 30-06. I like the idea of having open sights. I am not a mighty hunter, but could probably live with having one in the pile. :)

I like the "classic" look. I better shut up or I will have talked myself into one. :p

I have handled one, and yes, kjohn you need one! Classic in every way, excellent handling for hunting-style shooting - offhand, field positions, etc. That long barrel really steadies the hold, without adding too much weight. If I didn't already have a couple dozen bolt action rifles and a second .375 on the way in the mail, I'd buy a M70 Alaskan in .375.

Sadly the open sights only come on the 375 H&H...otherwise it's a great rifle.

So for $300 you can put really good iron sights on a 30-06 or .300 version of this rifle. Why a deal killer?

Nah. $1300 + 10% tax + another $300 for sights. I am up to my ears in them old army rifles, and would much rather waste my money on 1941 Longbranch rifles, or year 1900 Swedish rifles ordered from Germany that are numbered 1-5000, and that sort of thing. :p

Just picked one up in 300wm and it has open sights. I don't know what to put on it for glass. A 1-6x razor or a 4-14 shv. I am contemplating having it cerakoted in graphite black. I don't like seeing rust on blueing. And I will be hunting with it, so I figure why not?

Integral recoil lug means the recoil lug is machined into the action. On a rem 700 the recoil lug is pretty much a washer screwed on in between the barrel and the action. Integral recoil lug means its a more solid design, that and that the action is forged and not stamped or whatever cost-cutting methods a rem 700 or savage for eg will have.

I wouldn't be putting a low power scope such as 1-6 on a 300WM. To me that doesn't fit with the longer ranges that can be had with a 300. What terrain are you going to hunt?
I have a old Tasco 3x9 on a S&W 1500 in 300WM and a Nikon Monarch 3 4-16 on a CZ 550 UHR.
A Youtube video I watched recently by an old retired US Marine sniper instructor said that people should never need more that a 2-10.

Great news! I could've swore I read on the cabelas sight that only the 375 comes with open sights.
