.375 purchase assistance required

The 375 Ruger is the superior cartridge because it does everything a H&H can do, in an updated case design, with a shorter barrel and can use a shorter action. The case design for the H&H was for using cordite. I'm not aware of anybody using cordite anymore! ;)

That and the sharper shoulder angle of the Ruger will slow brass flow into the neck of the case. A case that last longer is superior isn't it?

Man, it's hard to participate in a thread where Gatehouse is reasonable! :) A new paradigm!

But I'll try.

If you enjoy the nostalgia aspect, the H&H is the only possible choice. If you are the sort of guy to whom "new & improved" is a mantra, and "NEW" a religion, maybe the Ruger is your baby. But, honestly, it seems as though the choice of rifle should come first, and then the logical cartridge choice for that rifle would follow. If you are looking at a Win70, Sako, CZ, Rem700 etc. you have the room for the H&H, so why not get it? One of my pet (and largely irrational) peeves is short cartridges in long actions...a .308 in a Tikka, or worse yet a Ruger #1, just rubs me the wrong way.

On another practical note, .375H&H's tend to be a bit harder to find simply because people cherish them and hang on to them, whereas .375Rugers come up for sale constantly, because...well...you know...:)

i dont know that much about 375hh but as a leftie the best combo without going on custom or semi-custom and getting a nice caliber was the stainless short barrel laminated 375 ruger in the hawkeye platform. good open sights, good stock, stainless.

if the 375hh or the 9.3x62 will come the same way maybe but for now the 375 ruger is really a workhorse for me.

if you see more 375 ruger to sell that is maybe because a lot has been sold. the first year of the appearance the 375 ruger was sold between 8 to 10 000 units ... dont think the model 70 in 375hh was ever produced at winchester with that number .... and no im not gate lol ...

All these posts and not even a single dancing banana.

Whats become of this forum... Ya'll need some vitamin D or something.

Is the .375 Chatfield Taylor fudd?
As far as the Ruger vs the H&H I do not see enough to make me pick one over the other cartridge wise, rather I would base my choice on the rifle that appeals the most to me.

Tis indeed very much Fudd! ........ It's the ORIGINAL 375 ShortMag!

You will want to be buying a 375 H&H because the Ruger 3/8" offering will soon be dead, relegated to it's place beside the 375 Wby, 8mm RM, Mr. Newton's cartridges and the shortest lived of all the 30-03.................:p:p;);)

Gate.........I was worried about you, thought maybe you weren't feeling good............but I see you're back to your old self.

Not to mention the WSSMs. :)

I seem to recall a couple of instances where Remington tried to breathe new life into a cartridge by renaming it (remember the 7mm Express?). Maybe we can save the .375Ruger from oblivion (doubtful...) by trying the same thing!

How's the .375RugerSuperShortPygmyMidgetWannabeMagnum sound? I think .375RSSPMWM rolls right off the tongue nicely...maybe I should move into marketing. :)

That marketing ploy might help breath new life into the cartridge, if you can figure how to fit it all onto the headstamp of the brass .

That's easy...just make it a rimfire cartridge/case! No primer taking up space in the middle, lots of room for letters, numbers...hell, they could probably fit some advertising copy in there.

Wouldn't appeal to serious shooters, I admit...but how many of those actually buy the .375Ruger anyway? :)

Edited to add: Johnn, I just noticed your new avatar pic...very nice, and a very nice tribute as well.
