Hey everyone just bought a 375 ruger alaskan with the 20" barrel. I would like to load some bullets for spring bear season. Any suggestions? I want something that is going to cause some big damage. I dont eat bear meat so blood shot meat isnt a problem. I just want a bullet that is going to do the most damage...

Any suggestions?

I would try the 260gr Nosler Accubond bullets. Gatehouse has shot a bear with his 375 Ruger and this bullet with good results, they are pretty accurate too. I have some 260gr AB and 270gr TSX to load up in mine when I get some time. I don't think you can go wrong with any bullet in that caliber though.

"...dont eat bear meat..." What are you planning on doing with it? Wasting game meat is illegal in most places.

You ever tried coastal bear? :puke:

My dogs refuse to eat coastal grizzly...Walking garbage cans.

The rule in BC is you have to pack it out.

i built my rugy on on a post 64 winchster action with a 24" pachnor barrel... shoots the 300gr round nose factory stuff in one hole at 100... i am always looking for a great load for this gun but they seem pretty few and far between. Can't find many that really top the factory stuff. I got a bunch of triple shock to load. Would love to hear if anyone has had any good happen loading these too!

Sunray, here in Alberta black bear, wolves, coyote, and cats are all considered fur bearing animals, and only the hide may not be wasted. Any bear i ever shot, especially spring bear, are spoiled meat walking, just take a good whiff when your skinning, if you can eat it with a smile, and keep it down, i'll give you a shiny dollar!!!

i imagine they do, they den out earlier down in your country, eat nice green grass shoots, up here in northern AB they eat anything that they can find until the grass greens up, and the dandelions pop. I love the 375 ruger!!! (see we are still with the op)

Wierd. I made bear shepherds pie tonight, I made a bear meat loaf a few days ago, and Had bear Steaks just before that, all very delicious.

I find it incredibly wasteful to kill a bear and not take the meat, unless you are hunting in a garbage dump or something.

The guy that shared his with me seemed to love it. Shot on Vancouver Island. I enjoy everything from Squirrel to Moose from all over Western Canada but bear was no good IMO. I'd like to get one myself and try it again. Maybe it was just my mindset...

If you don't like the straight up meat you can still get it made into pepperoni and other sausages. The ground meat is very good for a variety of uses.

Some black bears are edible and others taste like rotten fishy meat.
Shoot a bear off the beach and try to eat it.

Grizzly is absolutely inedible and seems to go rotten almost immediately.
