I didn't get to use my new No.1, .375 Ruger for moose this fall, so I decided to take it out for Whitetails.

It's a Lipsey's, African Adventure "The Lion".
The balance and short length of the 1-S make it perfect for hunting in the brush.
I love the way this thing handles, it's my new favorite.
It weighs 9.25 lbs slung, with 4 in the shell holder, wearing a 2-7 VX-II, but it feels lighter.

I didn't have much time to work up loads.
I used 225 gr HDY IL's with 74 gr of RL-15 for 2695 fps avg.
With the first (and only) O.A.L. I tried, it shot just under 2".
Recoil is mild with this load, less than my 9 plus pound 300 win mag.

Shots were close at roughly 40 and 60 yards.
The wounds looked the same as if made by any .30 at 2700 fps.
There was no meat damage because they weren't shot through the meat.:)

She took two steps and fell, I made it to her before she expired and gave her a finisher, she wasn't much to look at after that.
He made it about 100 yds.

Nice rifle! Good hunt. I'm glad to see someone else using a 375 on their deer hunts. I've been taking my h&h out this year and been getting some looks and comments. My grandfathers old friend just laughs and reminds me of the fact that "his 30-30 has taken more game than I'll ever see". He's right I know and it doesn't bother me because he said the same thing when I bought my 270, 06, 7 mag, 308, so on and on:)
Congrats!
