Impressive stock inventory and prices IF they actually have the stuff they advertise.
PLUS a HUGH freight BILL to BC ! Forget that Idea !RJ

Another thing we found very surprising and also very disappointing were the several people in different sporting goods stores / gun shops that did not know that there is a difference in dimensions between the 375 Ruger and the 375 H&H.... one chap an older gentleman became quite annoyed with me when he insisted that the H&H could in fact be fired in a Ruger chambered rifle and I told him that was impossible, he all but implied that I didn't know anything.... last time I visit that gun shop...
It's pretty common for gun store clerks to have less knowledge than their clientele. Especially places like WSS!

Pretty good at Epps.
Usually somebody at the counter who will have a working knowledge of the gun or issue you're asking about.
They're busy there and sometimes you have to wait around.
But a busy store is usually a store that treats it's customers good.
Shooter's Choice in Waterloo is so so.
At LeBarons in Mississauga I got the idea from a couple of the counter clerks that they couldn't be bothered answering my questions.
They projected the attitude "just buy something or f'k off".
Haven't been there for a few years so maybe that's changed.
Like any store, you will have those that know their business, those that are there just for a job, and the worst- those that know nothing but think the are experts.
These days when I have a question, I will ask here or another forum, ask for a person in the gun shop I know to be knowledgeable or call the manufacturers themselves. Nothing is more infuriating than what Kevan just went through- Knowing the answer, but the employee insists he is correct. Although smartphones are pretty good that way these days.

The best approach is do all your homework first which takes seconds on the web.
Confirm the inventory and prices at the store by phone and then go buy it.
I remember going to Crappy Tire years ago on an errand for Dad looking for a box of "shells" for his Win mod 70 in 300 H+H Mag and being told by the counter clerk that they didn't have those but that they had 300 Win Mag ammo that was "pretty close" and would probably work.
Heard a sales person talking to someone on the phone recently

He was probably thinking of the 8mm Rem Mag which was another "still born" Remington creation rather than the necked down 308 Win based round.
No I don't think he had any 8 mags on the shelf to sell it was definitely a 7-08 he was talking about. Not that there's anything wrong with a 7-08 at all but I found his description pretty humorous

Had the same thing happened to me at WSS. Went there for some bullets for the .243 Win I had. The guy behind the counter shows me a box of Sierra high BC 107gr bullet. I tell the guy that those won't stabilize in my rifle and I'm looking for a shorter bullet. He looks back at several boxes on the shelf and then tells me: "Sorry, looks like all the ones we have are 6mm long". I thanked him and walked away.
It drives me frigging nutz to have to "school" a GUN STORE EMPLOYEE on something that should be pretty rudimentary to almost anyone that is familiar with firearms. I've walked away purchaseless too just because the thought of yanking some arsehole across the counter and throttling him made me too happy, and happiness is not a warm feeling to me.
They gotta start somewhere.
You're not going to hire Elmer Keith II for minimum wage and the dubious pleasure of running around all day trying not to get his head bitten off by irascible old gun owner customers.
Gotta be patient with these guys some of whom are barely more than kids.
