Can't let this thread go that far down!:) Finally got around to mount my new VX3 2.5-8x36 in low Ruger rings a couple weeks ago. Just got to find some time away from the wife and kids to go to the range and shoot those 250gr TTSX I have loaded. Almost forgot..........:dancingbanana:

Are those actually low rings or mediums? I have the same glass on my lh SS New King, would like to get my glass down a bit more like yours. Also, what are you running there for a stock? Is that a painted factory synthetic?

Has anyone loaded up the little Barnes 235 TSX?

Thanks! Yes, low rings. A #3 and a #4 ring as opposed the #4 and #5 that came with the rifle. The stock is a McMillan.

Details on that stock please? I am planning to replace the Hogue on my 416 Alaskan and looking for ideas/thoughts to consider.

It's a McMillan Ruger Mark II Classic in GAP camo. I couldn't stand the wide target style fore end on the Hogue stock.
 
I've got the same stock on my NEW KING. Although mine is a McSwirly and it didn't turn out as nice as I planned. Same function as Steve's , but Steves is more attractive. ;)
 
I don't read this thread much so please don't crucify me if this question has already been asked but is Ruger's new Guide Gun in Canada yet? I think I "need" a .375 of some sort or another and the Guide Gun looks like an ugly little devil that would preform really well. Anybody?

That light weight GS Custom bullet, the HV I presume, should shoot pretty flat from the .375 Ruger, and get the job done on arrival. Those are the bullets that make a great cartridge even more versatile. If you can get a .375 to shoot as flat as a .300 magnum, with no more recoil than a .300 magnum, why would you carry a .300 magnum? I can see the .375 Ruger becoming a world class cartridge pretty quickly.
 
He was loading them at 3200fps but dropped back to about 3100 for best accuracy. At that speed, with a 3" high at 100 zero you are looking at about 7" drop at 350 and 14" at 400. Definitely in 300 magnum territory. If I ever decide to get a 375 Ruger rifle built I would make it like my custom M70 300WSM. It's a full pound lighter than the Ruger

Using 235 or 250 TTSX bullets it would be an excellent choice for hunting anywhere and for anything. Light enough to pack for sheep, at hiome in the woods, lots of power close and far and comforting when bumping into grizzlies. :)
