.375 Ruger....

Nothing against the cartridge itself but most of what I have leans towards the older tried & true cartridges of days past. With that in mind, I'd likely opt for the 375 H&H. The other reason I shy away from the 375 Ruger is because of the 'definations' of:rolleyes: Royalty placed on it by one of the main proponents of it.

The cartridge design is outstanding in my opinion and I like the beltless .532 concept, but Hornady brass, which is all that is available for it after how many years, is utter garbage, and it's major proponent on this site is, well let's just say doing more harm than good for the cartridge. JMHO

Over the course of six or so years I had the opportunity to play with three Ruger rifles chambered for the 375 Ruger cartridge.
Two of those I bought, a Ruger African with the wood stock and an Alaskan with the Hogue synthetic.
Now, as far as I'm concerned both these rifles had fitting and functional issues that any quality control person worth their salt should have pounced upon.
At the same time that I was tearing my hair out over these rifles, I happened to buy two more Ruger Hawkeye rifles, one a 264 Win. mag. and a 358 Win., both of which were virtually 100% in fit and overall function... so go figure, what does a person do ?
All the while I had two 375 H&H rifles of different ages and different makers, a late 1960s vintage Browning Safari and an early 80s BRNO 602 both of which were / are tackdrivers and function flawlessly.

Also, to make things more frustrating I had issues with the quality and longevity of the Hornady - made 375 Ruger brass while most other 375 Ruger owners have had no problems whatsoever...

Nosler makes 375 Ruger brass and has a few different factory loads too. Most of the haters are die hard H&H fans, change sucks for most people but I like my 375 Ruger.

375s in general are just not a big deal, and when some fellows started to say this cartridge was the alpha and omega for all big game hunters, it got annoying. There are merits to a lifted Dodge and a hooded sweater, but who wants to be associated with that type?

I have a Ruger #1 in 375, but really, it's just another gun.

Or they just don't see a need to change for the sake of change. Especially with the lack of choice with brass. I have not had happines with Nosler brass in 7mm RM and niether has my friend with his .300 H&H.

Pretty sure Nosler buys their brass. And who would they buy .375 Ruger brass from? ;)

Because it does exactly what it was designed to do?

Does what the H&H can do and a little extra at times, but with a standard length action and a shorter barrel, and maybe a little less powder.

I really don't see anything wrong with this.

On the otherhand, I bought an H&H instead of a Ruger.

Boomer..............he looks really pi$$y, what did you do to him............polars generally look quite benevolent, but not him. His body language is "nasty business" !!!
How come there is no 375 Wby in that line up, arguably the best of the works.

Nosler markets the brass.... does not ' make ' it, if other companies made it the quality would improve I'm sure.

Lets be clear about something..... I am not a Ruger hater, I too think its an excellent cartridge design and I would dearly love to have a 375 Ruger in a Mauser action or even a pre-64 Mod. 70 either one of two fine rifles.
My issues with the brass came from brass that was purchased here in BC, one box from Whitehorse, and three different boxes from Ontario gun shops so I was left wondering where to find good brass especially since all other 375 Ruger drivers were having no problem.

Ok, sure I can be accused of being a die-hard 375 H&H fan.... why ??..... simply because with any 375 H&H I have owned since the late 1960s each and every one have shot well and been utterly dependable, and put a lot of meat on the table for my family.
I think I'm fairly open -minded and I hold no particular bias toward any rifle / cartridge, I'll try anything fairly, but when I have issues with same I don't mind telling others about it and unlike some others I will not resort to name calling to those who oppose my opinion.

It's funny that the brass is the main argument with this cartridge, with the against side because Hornady makes it it's crap. To me it's like who makes the best truck, there will never be an end to the debate.
I read online that Norma made Nosler brass and found this picture, is that brass good enough?

Told ya! That's what happens when you interrupt their meal, in this case beluga tar-tar. Note the dried blood on his face. The .375 Weatherby best of the bunch?? Its not as good as the one in the middle.

That bear has bad intentions written all over him. Given it's demeanor though it's likely female ;).

Well, I've encountered females like that, four legged and two!

Boomer just has a way with bears.

So it seems, but this isn't one of our pics. Our mutual pal took it from one of his Zodiacs, and backed off when it appeared the bear was about to join him in the boat. He added the cartridges later upon request.

Again, I think that you misunderstand me..... I am not trying to be critical of Hornady product in general.... simply that I had issues with the 375 Ruger brass that I purchased which they had produced.
I use a lot of Hornady products both brass and bullets, some of the best brass I have used in 6.5X55 and 303 British for example have the Hornady headstamp.
I don't know what you are trying to prove with the Norma brass in 6.5X284..... I have some of that also but that doesn't tell me that Norma is making 375 Ruger brass... does it ??
