375 Ruger

Well that is not totally correct as a reloader I can pick powders that will give equal performance from both it's just that no matter how hard you try you can't get close to the performance of the 375RUM but if I want I can download to the H&H Ruger levels.

TB thanks for the heads up but I have no interest in any 378 Weatherby for 2 reasons brass costs far more than I ever want to pay and I'm starting to get old I definately don't need to deal with anymore recoil then I am already...

and this is another reason that I haven't picked up a Ruger they have only come out with a LH model black/gray laminate stock.

As some of you know s/s black/gray laminate is my thing I'll post a pic in a few weeks of my collection it should be just about complete then... :D

Given equal barrel lengths, the velocity of the Ruger will be slightly higher than the H&H. However, this doesn't make much difference in the field, of course. A 100fps or even 200fps difference rarely makes a difference either, for that matter...

Anyone that wants the highest velocity .375 cartridge out there would not bother with lesser cartridges such as the 375 RUM and should go straight to the 378, or even faster, the .375 Saturn.
:)

So this picture must hurt a little then? Your collection will never be complete without the King of the 375s!!:D

PS: You should quit arguing with TB and Gatehouse, your denial is showing.:)

I'm not a big fan of laminate stocks, but that rifle looks pretty good.:)

I don't know why Ruger doesn't offer it as an added $$$ option in RH form, probably because they are barely keeping up with demand for the Hogue stocked rifles. Probably come in time...Although I assume Boyds or someone else probably makes an aftermarket laminate for Ruger

LittleBoyLefty I will concede that your rifle is an excellent looking package and one of the few Ruger Alaskans that I can honestly say I like the looks of.

I used to own/shot a 22" barreled Sako Hunter 375H&H for years and will probably never own another H&H so have no interest in a 375 Ruger either.

I'll stick with my 375RUM that can do everything the Ruger can and everything it can't.

If I wanted a shorter barrel I'll buy another 375RUM (actually have a post in the EE for one now) and Boomer it...

oh and I'm not arguing just pointing out the truth thru all of the propaganda... :D

The .375 H&H has been all over the world, and done it all. Now we have H&H ++ performance in an updated cartridge, and in affordable, well thought out rifle designs.

God Bless the New King of the .375's, the MIGHTY .375 RUGER
:rockOn::rockOn:

.375 is NOT a big bore tho --- the original question involved his wanting a new "big bore".

Big bores start at .400

Oh my I see the propaganda will never stop and yelling doesn't make others believe its anything other than a desperate attempt to force others to believe...

You will notice I do not yell I just point out the truth...

Boomer thanks for the picture now there is the Grand Master of 375 performance...

I don't agree with that go to any internet firearms site and you will find Big Bore refers to 375 cal and up not 400 cal and up.

Only time will tell. but you may be right the more I shoot my Ruger Alaskan the more I like it. It shoots well, recoils a bit more but it is 2-3 pounds lighter than my CZ 550 in 375 H&H.

Camp Cook - not that it really matters, I was being a bit silly, but Nitroexpress.com has their sections as "Rifles" being everything up to and including .375 and then "Big Bores"

As I said, I am just jacking around. In North America, a .375 is definitely a big bore.

>375 has always traditionally been classed as a "medium" bore. Lots of intraweb sites class it as a big bore since it's more efficient to clump it in with the 416's and 458's etc. It's largely irrelevant though- It is what it is.

Boomer, I am sure Ruger took some inspiration from you and many Alaskan guides when they designed the Alaskan model!:)

if you get a free miners license for $25.00 per year/365 days you have more rights to be out there than a logger that built the logging roads or the land owner that holds the title to a property.
we don't have to deal with having to ask for permission to access private property
That is pure BS. I've had a "pannin' permit" a couple times and it doesn't give anyone the right to trespass on private property!

And I think a Ruger Alaskan in .375 Ruger is definately required in my collection

I'm thinking you should read up on the Mining Act & the Mining Right of Way Act's of BC... :p

Up until last year were one small change was made a free miner in BC had and still has the legal right to access any property in BC to within 75 yards of a building as long as it wasn't on cultivated or orchard lands which they are not allowed to enter this does not include pasture or range land they have every right to enter these areas.

They even have the legal right to use your private roads on your private property without asking your permission (section 10 sub-section 2 of the Right Away act), I always ask to be polite but I don't have to and I always carry a copy of the Acts to show anyone that asks that I have these access rights.

Now after 150 years of no changes to these Acts a free miner has to now give written notice to the land owner 8 days prier to entering their lands.

You will notice I didn't say ask for permission to enter a free miner still does not have to ask for permission only needs to give written notice to the land owner and the land owner cannot legally stop them.

BC Free Miner access rights are absolutely awesome for the Free Miners... :D

Oh by the way FYI the BC Mining Act is equal to or more powerful than the strongest Federal Acts in Canada due to being the very first Acts ever introduced in Canada.
