375 Ruger

Correct, that one was done in by the medium bore Queen (although I thought my 9.3x74R should have that title??).

Lots of photos in the archives but it's better to just remain current and not be in a time warp with hunting exploit details. I've only been here for 1 season and a bit. ;)

Interesting article on the 375 Ruger in Handloader, Aug./Sept. 2007, 20" barrel (Ruger Alaskan) vs. 24" (Husqvarna, typos noticed in the table below - they got their figures reversed). Impressive muzzle speeds from a 24" barrel.

Most remarkable is the 300gr Woodleigh at 2900 fps in the Husky compared to 2500 fps in the Alaskan. And the Queen of the Medium Bores does 2500~2600 fps with 300gr bullets from a 24" barrel. 6% more case capacity and sharper shoulders make quite a difference.

Maybe it will kill a moose?

Phil Shoemaker, Alaskan Master Guide, Brown Bear Guide and author posted this on the campfire today:

“I have a harem of "perfect, all around Alaskan rifles " that I keep in camp as loaners for guides, packers and clients. They are chambered in .338, 9.3x62, 375 H&H and Ruger and .416 Ruger and Rigby.
The 375 Rugers are the most popular by far. The 375 H&H and the 9.3x62 come in a distant second.
Although both .338's are superbly accurate, very few of today's hunters seem interested in either them or the 416's

I also just returned from the annual SCI convention in Las Vegas and heard from a good number of African PH's that the .375 Ruger is making serious inroads in popularity over there as well.”

That’s got to sting a bit for the guys that predicted the NEW KING would soon be a footnote in history.

Big bore bullets should not have plastic tips
This broke off in the mag of a 375 ruger on the weekend.
Junk! Not ultimate... :)

I hear ya, I wouldn't be pleased. When bench shooting I almost never load more than one round at a time. When practicing from field positions I would never of known it was missing the tip! My father in law broke the tip off a 168gr TTSX 300wm when using it to pry a bigger hole in the strap of his leg gaiter one morning in the field. I haven't found any blue tips except in the first few inches of a wound channel.

I agree... the plastic in a medium to big bore just seems... wrong... I do use the FTX in the little .358... but that is a "baby" medium... and it is less offensive in the BLR.
